Davemccright's Dangerous Dave’s Diabolical Log for Density and Destruction

Truly awesome workout tonight! Just got in and crushed it and got out! Grappling tournament tomorrow. Super excited about it and I think this lift will give me some extra confidence going into it. Weight is around 210, so I’m up about 5-6 pounds from where I started! Competing at the 215 lb weight class tomorrow. The Mrs came out and watched the last half of my session and was gracious enough to time my flutter set for bench.

Well I officially took 1st place at the 215 pound weight class in my first ever Jiu Jitsu tournament! Went 5-0, and didn’t get a single point scored on me! Won my matches by a score of 10-0, 17-0, 3-0, 12-0, and 8-0. All five matches were within an hour and a half span so it’s a damn good thing my conditioning is absolutely rock solid right now.

And yes, I was sipping on my Surge all day long. I figured the electrolytes in it, in particular, would be of particular importance today.

I don’t know a ton about the BJJ point system, but a 50-0 combined day is incredible. Congrats!

Looking jacked in the photo, too. Neck especially.

Thank you very much!! My performance actually got me promoted to blue belt haha! There were a few other guys in the bracket that were absolutely JACKED as well. Trying to hold them down was like trying to ride a mechanical bull for 5 minutes lol

I believe the Grappling Industries point system is something like 2 points for a takedown, 2 points for a pass, 3 points for side control, 5 points for Mount or Back take, 5 points for a near submission. Single 5 minute rounds. I really miss the brief rest between periods that we got in wrestling!

Yesterday’s workout was a nice easy way to ease into lifting this week after that tough tournament this weekend. I felt a little weaker than usual, but got through everything with no issues. Arms and back was the perfect workout to return with. I got an amazing pump and really enjoyed the session.

I did this but with a whole plate less yesterday and was dying; I respect the work you’re putting in here.

Thank you sir! I’m just really trying to put everything I can into this challenge. It’s really hard getting through that cycle especially with such minimal rest. But I really want to make T-Nation, Tim Patterson, and Dr. Darden satisfied with Their decision to add me to this challenge. Also, I really appreciate your input in the main thread, I believe you’re a big help in fine-tuning this program.

Agreed. Squatting 225 for 34 reps–with holds and slow negatives–in a couple of minutes is absolutely savage.

I whimper like a baby using weights so light I’m embarrassed to log them.

I also agree on being grateful for being included in this, especially as a not particularly jacked or strong middle-aged dude. This is, bar none, the most interesting training experience I’ve ever had.

Filthy squat sets, great work. Would love to see a video of the squat block next time you do it.

Nice work on the BJJ tournament! That’s awesome!

I actually have found the same thing with my WODs at Crossfit. My ability to continue working and moving while others have gassed out seems more pronounced with Surge.

@barley1 and @burst a year ago, I wouldn’t have even been able to touch this weight for those sets. It’s taken a lot work Building up my squat as well as my Widowmaker sets to have the Fortitude to be able to handle it. That’s a good idea for filming for sure. I think that seems to be one a lot people would enjoy.

@antiquity thank you so much!! I really do think the Surge was great for helping with my endurance and hydration, because the breaks between matches were really short and I needed to recover as fast as possible so I’d be ready to roll again within about 10 minutes! I’m definitely a big fan of this product.

Wow! This workout was an absolute bust-ass session. The workout really started with a bang with the shoulder block. This all out effort on shoulders really made the benching at the end of the workout simply BRUTAL. My pushing Muscles were absolutely devastated by the time the workout was over. I also substituted the dead hangs for the traditional DC style Shoulder stretch, just to see if I liked it better, and I think I did. Of course, this session also featured the vaunted “Legs” block. This took place right after calves which did make it a bit tougher.

I did actually record the squat portion of this workout for you guys, as it has been pretty highly requested by many of you who follow the log and/or are participating in the challenge yourselves. I’m glad I recorded it, because I see I moved much too fast on some of the negatives on the “Stimulate” phase. I’ll make sure to consciously correct that next time. I started the recording right before my first squat, no warm ups. Just jumped right in and gutted it out.

Damn, nice work. 225 for squats is no joke.

I get after this workout tomorrow and already know it’s going to suck, in the best way.

It absolutely does! In the best way like you said! The super short rest times are really what make it such a struggle. Thankfully, if you see what I was doing right before this, you’ll see I was doing Widowmakers in addition to my heavy squats, which was a great primer for this challenge. However, I’m pretty certain @T3hPwnisher could do this challenge with 4 plates, so to me, 225 is not THAT impressive. But I guess that’s why they say comparison is the thief of joy lol

But trust me, I’ll get there some day.

Even so, you finished your set without crumpling to the floor or making any baby-like whimpering noises. I’m guilty of both, with much less weight.

I tend to either go a tad too fast on the negative or forget to pause for a second at the bottom.

I think recording yourself can be really enlightening to areas you can improve your lifting. Staying cognizant off what you need to be doing differently can be tough when you’re in the middle of an extremely hard set though haha

Had a badass lift before Canada Day festivities yesterday. Had just an unreal pump afterwards! I can’t wait to get more Surge in. This stuff has seriously been amazing! My pumps have been game changing and I seriously feel like I’m pushing myself to the next threshold. I had been plateaued at around 204, but now my weight is consistently over 210. Including my official weigh in at the Jiu Jitsu tournament at 211.4! I’m feeling like a big jacked dude around the clock!

I’ve been loving this program so much! It’s sad that I only have a week left, but I’m certainly going to be giving it my all. Hoping to close out the program with some big gains!!
