Dark Knight Rises Spoiler Edition

Saw the movie twice in 24 hours. Loved it.

Loved Bane’s swagger, the way he always kind of gripped his collar. For me, he demanded your attention on the screen. Voice bugged me at first, but quickly grew on me and I loved it. His last 5 minutes on film sucked, finding out he wasn’t the ‘head’ of the whole ordeal, and then just dying from a Catwoman cannon shot. But his presence, his attitude, the way he spoke and issued promises of hope and liberation, were great. Not a better villain then Joker, but I liked him better, if that makes sense.

Hatheway did a great job, which I was surprised by.

The way they kind of payed homage to Robin, while making it pretty obvious he wouldn’t be ‘Robin’. Probably either another Batman or more of Nightwing type character. Was great.

Kind of thought the ending, with Fox realizing the auto-pilot had been fixed, that it was going to be that Bruce had chosen to die, just because he felt he would never be able to move-on. Kind of wanted SOMEONE to die. Shit, I thought at least Alfred would or something. lol

Only issue is I just want to know how Bruce got back to Gotham after being in the pit? Couldn’t take the bridge, doubt he swam or crossed the ice, etc…

The 2nd movie was the better movie, but the third is my favorite. [/quote]

I could not agree more with your last statement.

How do you fuck the guy that killed your dad???

Like any film, it has its flaws, and like anything that we have grown up and loved since we were kids we are bound to be dissappointed in letting other people live out our dreams. All in all, great fucking movie. I saw a 1210am showing and at 345 am I was still sitting in my car in disbelief that it was all over. I think we are more upset over that, that this is it. I think it has serious flaws but I would never turn down a chance to watch it, any of the 3 actually.

That’s why she is a bad a$$. I agree with you that I am more mad/upset it’s all over. The past few years waiting and watching Batman on the big screen have been great. The 8+ hours of getting lost in Gotham were amazing.

Anyone else feel that it is a strong commentary against the 99% and Occupy BS?

The “uprising” and the kangaroo court reminiscent of the French Revolution where the wealthy were judged seems like Nolan’s take on what would happen if the “99%” nutcases get what they wish for.

The central character in all this would seem to be Selina Kyle (Catwoman) who at first as a member of the “oppressed” rages against the wealthy and tries to steal from them to get even but later has a serious change of heart (with the thugs beating up the kid who stole an apple scene).

It was heavily influenced by a “Tale of Two Cities,” according to Nolan.

Yeah, the only reason I thought of this is because of Limbaugh’s rant earlier in the week, but I don’t see this movie at all promoting the occupy wall street movement. If anything, it shows that the people are just being manipulated by smart people’s larger plot.

I enjoyed the shit out of the movie. My favorite part was Liam Neisson’s 10 second cameo - I am impressed that I somehow avoided knowing about that before the movie (not sure if it was on the webz, or if Nolan actually managed to keep it under wraps).

Also, I knew it was Talia (I was guessing going in that Colliard was playing a bigger role than we were lead to believe) when she talked with Bruce about bringing balance back in reference to the power generator at the party - I think that was a direct quite from Raz from the 1st movie.

Just thinking, since Blake doesn’t like the Robin name, maybe he won’t be Robin, and instead they make a Nightwing movie.

That would be bad ass.

In the year 2039, a 17 year old boy growing up in the Wayne Estate Orphanage under the mentor-ship of John “Robin” Blake discovers the Batcave. As he stops to gaze at the wondrous site, he is stopped cold by a hand resting on his shoulder. Expecting to see his mentor as he turns around, he is astonished by the menacing stare of an aging Bruce Wayne.
The boy’s name?
Terry McGinnis

Ehhh, I’m not a big Batman Beyond fan, they tone it down too much to be appropriate for kids. I would rather see a Dark Knight Returns movie that’s rated R, there were too many damn kids at DKR.

no

My first thought at the end.

LOL

Dude’s government name is Robin. Obviously he will not go as ‘Robin’ if he suits up (not much of a secret identity) , and it will in no way be the Robin we all know. He would either be another Batman, or maybe a Nightwing like character.

I think the name Robin was just a way to pay homage and kind of allow fans to understand the idea of an ‘heir’.

Yer, as he was walkiing throught the batcave, I was thinking Nightwing for sure.

Robin is Batmans sidekick, while Nightwing in the comics often operated alone. Actually I remember I was reading the Nightwing comics when he got his own line. About 10 years ago now, not sure its still running…

oh man roybot never ceases to amaze. I don’t think some people on here fully appreciate the knowledge and commentary he drops on a consistent and regular basis. eloquent and enlightening are probably the two words I’d use to describe his posts. That stuff on a ‘Tale of Two Cities’ and the book-cinema-entertainment trifecta was gold.

I’ll be posting my brief review on the film tomorrow.

I agree with everything you wrote about Bane. I thought he was fucking awesome. “Menacing” is the best and only word needed to describe him. The part where he put his hand on Daggett’s shoulder and said “do you still feel in control?” was one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

The other was watching him beat the ever-loving shit out of Batman in their first fight. Really any scene with Bane was my favorite in the movie. I thought Hardy completely fucking nailed it.

I DID NOT like how Bane seemed to shrink in importance and stature the minute we find out about Talia. Like all of a sudden he’s just another pawn, and she was really the brains the whole time. Then, BOOM, Selina shoots him. He deserved more than a comic-relief death.

x2. Loved those scenes.

I think the Talia storyline ruined the ending. Bane deserved more, and I wasn’t impressed by her character.

Yeah, I feel making Talia THE mastermind was a mistake. It would have been just as surprising had she just been apart of the League of Shadows at all. Her being the child of Ra’s al Ghul could have still been done, just not make it look like Bane was just a lackey. It takes away the brilliance he had when discovering the weapons of Wayne Enterprise, the way he used Gordan’s speech to make his take-over seem like a liberation, etc. The way they did it, somehow implied Talia could have been responsible for that.

But Bane still just made the movie for me. The way Tom Hardy, even with a masking covering his face, the way he acted with his eyes made the character’s words so much more intense. The speech about being ‘raised in the dark’ was brilliant IMO. It was different then the Joker; when Ledger came onto the screen, I felt honestly uncomfortable. With Bane, I had to respect him, just that he was Alpha as fuck (until he ended up just being a white knight lolol).

Did anyone else feel strange watching Batman get his ass whooped that first time. I’ve seen him get beat down in comics, but that scene was brutal. Bruce, in the full Batman suit, just getting outmatched completely, him honestly giving it his all and being no match, honestly made me feel sick. It was like watching you Dad get beat up or something, like my brain wasn’t processing it. They did a great job of, for probably the first time in a superhero movie, for a second my brain thought ‘The Hero may not win’.
