Dani's Rebel Log

Sick and Wired

This might be the most productive sick week I’ve ever had. The confidence coach I mentioned above, Trish Blackwell, did a podcast on time blocking and I started implementing the strategies over the weekend. I can’t even believe the results.

So when Monday began my planner was packed, and I just kinda flew through everything with so much more efficiency than usual. But then voiceovers got harder to record as I got more and more congested, and now my throat is on fire, it feels like there’s an icepick in my head, and everything aches.

Being a sicko apparently does not reduce my appetite, but lucky for me, recording protein recipe videos is part of my job.

The latest one is a low carb protein dip that you can basically put on anything, and you’ll want to because it’s addictive. Obviously if you’re a low carber, you’d probably not eat it on an apple, but I dipped whole cashews into it and it was insanely good.

I also tested it on a few other things:

Rice cake:
Chocolate chips:
Frozen cherry:
Raw potato:

Also, that is a Cosmic Crisp apple slice, and it is hands-down the best tasting, juiciest apple you’ll ever put in your mouth. It’s basically a dessert all by itself, and with the dip, it’s pure crack.

We also did a protein cheesecake. Chris came up with this recipe a while back and it’s a favorite.

So my last real lifting session was on Monday, and if this infection gets worse I may be taking the whole week off. Womp womp.

Coming back to this.

Yup definitely see what you mean, teaching on something as an authority and claiming you’re able to do so from a position of victory all the while carrying on the behaviour in an ever more insidious way is a very different prospect than being open and honest and sharing your struggles as part of your journey…

Nope, definitely wouldn’t want to commission that book, I suppose my thoughts were merely around still choosing to read the book and separating the author from the words. A bit like the scam artist examples they usually start getting into positions of trust by giving legitimate advice - let’s say finance - they might advise budgeting, saving and investing, then persuade you to invest in their “guaranteed return” and then rob you blind, the budgeting saving and investing advice is still solid, just not investing with them.

Yes this is true, and I’ll say that your church definitely made the right choice in terms of pulling it, it’s exactly what I’d want to do at our church. My thoughts are around me personally rather than what the church does around this issue - just a shame it has to be thought about at all!

I will say that none of my comments have been intended as a disagreement just me rambling and processing thoughts.

Haha now I really want to know!

That meme is perfect by the way!

I truly appreciate all of your thoughts on that subject and others! I never took it as disagreement, just good conversation.

Seems like we agreed but had different points to make and different things to consider. Thanks so much for the great discussion!

Today was my first lifting workout since last Monday and even though the sore throat headache symptoms are long gone, my energy was not great.

I did some shoulder mobility stuff, leg press, ham curl, and then kinda crashed. My posterior chain and quads got a nice pump, but that was about all I could do.

The biggest perk of days like this is that when an elderly man talks to me between sets, I’ve basically got all the time in the world. They’re absolutely hilarious. If you’ve got any at your gym, make sure to talk to them.

What I listened to while working out…

Anyone else a Max Lugavere fan? This interview is amazing.

hmm I wonder if young women at my gym say this about me.

You’re not elderly!

Well, hold on. I’m considered elderly by some standards. And today’s twenty year olds are basically fetuses. So I guess that term is pretty vague and we are both elderly. :joy:

That’s what I mean. When you first wrote this I immediately thought of my dad and how he has been going to the same gym for 20 years and seems to know everyone there, both young and old. But then I started thinking, I wonder how others see me. I think the answer is that they mostly just think I am crazy. LOL

This just means you’re fun!

Yesterday I had another short workout. Hit glutes and abs, then I couldn’t stop blacking out and I had to keep kneeling or sitting on the gym floor. This time, it definitely wasn’t due to a lack of electrolytes.

So I called it there. No biggie. I didn’t think the sinus infection (or whatever the heck that was last week) was that bad, but my body is taking its time getting back to 100 percent. No workout today.

Seems like a good idea to me. Hope you feel better soon Dani.

Waaaaaay better workout today, but I still stuck to machine work. That shoulder impingement from a few weeks ago got re-irritated while hauling a couple heavy things around on Sunday.

It’s one of those injuries you forget about, so then you stress the joint by lifting stuff, and then take a few steps backward in recovery. Annoying, but this just means my lower body is going to get double the attention.

Abs: 3 x failure
Leg Press: 100 unbroken, then 4 x 15, 10, 10, 8
Machine Ham Curl: 3 x failure
Booty Machine: 3 x Failure

What I listened to:

Love what he has to say about seeking out discomfort.

Thank you so much! I’ve been feeling fantastic, but I guess my body wasn’t ready to hit the weights just yet. So it was actually kinda lucky that I got to sneak in a couple mini-workouts.

There’s something to be said for just showing up. You could probably apply this to things outside the gym too, but today it became really apparent.

I knew I’d have to kinda play it by ear because hitting back and shoulders is a no-go right now, and yesterday was already a lower body day. So I started with hip thrusts and got an incredible pump. After hitting failure for four sets, I extended each one with some partials at the top range that just burned like nothing else.

Then I decided to try a little chest work and discovered that the Hammer Strength press allows you to keep your elbows nicely tucked. So my shoulder felt fine while doing it, and I was able to hit chest pretty thoroughly.

And while doing some mobility work, this woman I often chat with in passing, showed me a banded shoulder distraction that she made up! AND YOU GUYS, IT WAS AMAZING. It’s so good, I might have to do a video of it because I’ve never seen anything like it.

How crazy is that?! It’s like she knew exactly what I needed!

So, even when you have doubts about the potential of a workout, just being in the presence of other fit people is a game-changer.

Other Stuff

That’s a picture from a couple weekends ago while we were out walking the dogs. But lately it feels like we’re on the cusp of spring in Colorado, which is completely unseasonable, which is actually a word. And if you’re playing scrabble, and the word season is already on the board, all you’ll need are these letters: U-N-A-B-L-E. Hopefully you can get it over one of those triple word score squares.

So despite the deceivingly warm temps, I think we still have a few blizzards left. This list explains our weather patterns better than anything else.

Another thing! We had to grab something at Target recently and I was surprised to see that they had a faux hoya.

They even made it specific to the species. This is a hoya carnosa krimson queen. And I get some type of weird satisfaction from seeing fake versions of plants that are alive and thriving in my house. However, I may need a fake cactus in a couple weeks. Mine is about to die.

A while ago the topic of personality types was brought up, and I remember we were discussing the Myers-Briggs types.

I’ve been reading a book that’s been extremely interesting - it suggests that the brain is but a tool for you to use to accomplish your goals. Psycho-Cybernetics.

I hit a point in the book where it started discussing personality types, and he mentioned an observation of people taking personality types… that they would take the test as they believed they are, then have them retake the test as they wished they were. After retaking it, and having the test-takers imagine themselves in the shoes of their ideal self - they started behaving more like their ideal selves.

That got me to thinking… So I pulled up the Myers-Briggs personality types via 16Personalities and read through the personality types. Turns out that while I’ve consistently tested closely to INTJ (Architect), I also feel very closely relatable to the ENTJ (Commander) type. So much so that I feel like I belong to both, but want to be a little bit more like ENTJ than INTJ.

So I went another level deeper and abused AI for personal gain (Google’s Bard AI - couldn’t use ChatGPT because I’m at work… totally doing work-related stuff). I had it combine ENTJ and INTJ personality types and now I’m pretty sure Google knows more about me than I do. At any rate, I actually like this description of my ideal personality a lot and I figured I’d share it - because we seem to share book recommendations and whatnot.

The cliff notes version of the ENTJ/INTJ (STA) combination reads like this:
Strategic Leader, Independent Thinker with Influence, Calculated Extrovert.

The Strategic Analyst (STA) is a mastermind, combining the cool-headed analysis of an INTJ with the inspiring leadership of an ENTJ. They craft brilliant plans with a unique blend of logic and creativity. STAs are persuasive communicators who can influence others with well-reasoned ideas, and while they value their alone time, their insights are invaluable to any team.

TL;DR: I abused AI to make a combination of Myers-Briggs personality types that I fit in - but also that align more with how I want to be as a person, and it worked incredibly well.
