Yes, I am always getting Emma to eat more meat, falsely believing it will raise her levels but it never really does. Other womens bodily functions seem to have a much greater impact.
I have friends that used to LOVE Boudin… until I told them it had liver in it. Not so much now. Haven’t eaten it since ![]()

I made it at home a few times. Tried it with just ground beef - it wasn’t the same.
Give me the blood-flavored organs, or give me death.
Do you mind my asking how often Emma gets an iron injection?
If it’s once a year, I might need to consider it. If it’s more of a once-a-month thing, I’d have to pass.
HAHAHA that’s awesome.
It is probably more like once every second year, but this is more because she probably doesn’t get bloods done often enough or push her Dr to prescribe more often. The infusion worked so much better for her but it seems like her iron levels always drop over time, eve with tablets.
I think like with a lot of women she tends to suffer in silence and just deal with the fatigue and feeling meh. It is usually me that notices the drop in her energy and pushes her to go and see the Dr again.
Assuming you’ve experimented with doses? Wondering if a very small dose daily would work for you?
Also you liver… pate on hot buttery toast is divine, nothing like eating a tampon.
But how do you know tho?
We don’t talk about it ![]()
I got kicked in the face and I was unable to eat an red meat for a few years because of the smell.
Liver, no thanks. I still can’t do it maybe if that is the only option before starvation.
Great question. I used to get over the counter iron supplements and use them regularly, but my doc discouraged that and said they were worthless.
You know what though? That’s better than what I’ve been doing. So thank you for that reminder! I’ll probably go back to that strategy.
Also, isn’t it kinda crazy that there are iron supplements that aren’t over the counter? You have to jump through a lot of hoops to just have a normal healthy body. I haven’t renewed my prescription iron, so when what I have runs out there will be some brand new hoops. ![]()
Ok this is really good info. So maybe once a year isn’t a bad strategy.
It’s like the boiling frog scenario. The fatigue comes on so slowly that women don’t even realize they have a deficiency until it’s serious.
Iron-deficiency anemia occurs when serum ferritin drops to around 13, but even when it’s a little higher than that, you’ll still feel weak and tired. But in our minds, there are always other potential reasons for feeling that way: poor sleep, hard workouts, etc.
So she’s lucky to have you reminding her to get that iron in!

OH MY GOODNESS. You guys made me laugh so hard last night when I saw this! ![]()

Wow! What a wild story! Yep, I can see exactly why you wouldn’t be a fan of liver.
I was supposed to take a fasted blood test at 8:15 this morning (for liver health, testosterone levels, and lipids), but simply could not hold out. I was so famished that I put organic, lactose-free, well-adjusted-cow, half-and-half in my coffee. And then had a second cup.
And then I lied to the computer about being in a fasted state during check-in. Does this mean I’ll need to retest? Ugh.
I sat with a lady in the waiting area and we talked about how we’re bad at fasting. She actually came to her appointment an hour early just to see if they could fit her in sooner and she could eat the banana waiting in her car. We’re both morning people who eat early. She was quite beautiful, probably in her 60s, healthy looking, and lean.
I bet she didn’t drink any half-and-half or lie about it during check in.
I’m such a broken record on this, but I went from someone that was ALWAYS hungry and eating every 30 minutes to someone that can fast all day when I cut out plants and focused purely on animal foods. It was an absolutely wild transition.
Although, typing it out, I realize that would probably NOT help the lipids fasting question, because though it WOULD make it easier to fast, I imagine your LDL would be sky-high when you got there! Haha.

It’s such a complicated metric! I tend to not care about lipids, but I trust whatever my chiro says to check. He’s far more progressive than my regular doc.

I remember the loss of appetite being a cool feature of that way of eating. One thing I didn’t love was the constipation. LOL, it was a weird paradox of feeling very lean but also carrying around a food baby because the meat-only approach slowed my digestion to a stop. Men don’t tend to have that problem. Lucky guys!!
Ironically, it wiped out the SIBO and candida I was dealing with.
My neighbour called round yesterday to drop off some flower cuttings for my wife. They are plant lovers too and always like to share the love. Sharing a photo with you as it’s too far to deliver a flower.
That color is absolutely stunning! Thank you for the flower!! ![]()
