Well played.
Super curious about the massage therapy. I hear good things, and it’s certainly become popular with athletes, but it’s something I also haven’t tried.
I think it all depends on the massage therapist. You want to find someone who knows muscles and can dig in deep. Some massages feel more like a tickle, and others hurt so bad they make your eyes tear up. I’m going for the latter.
The woman who’s been recommended to me is a lifter who loves anatomy and will find every area that needs to be worked on. I’m just dragging my feet for some reason.
Maybe because:
!
HA! Possibly. The winter makes me a little more introverted for some reason. I can chat briefly with a stranger at the gym or the store, but it’s hard to make new appointments where I know I’m going to be up close and personal with someone new.
You’re in Denver, right? I currently sit in your airport. It’s gotta be because your winters are so harsh you’re using all your energy just existing!
Hopefully they did for you though.
Uh, absolutely not. ![]()

Close! CO Springs. Our winters last till the end of May. And I just deleted a whole paragraph complaining about weather. I’m working on my attitude toward that.
Uh, absolutely not.
Have you developed any strategies that help you get through it?
I’ve been mentally breaking it up into sets because 4 sets of 25 feels a lot less daunting than going from 1 to 100. I might try thinking about it like 10 sets of 10 just to feel like I’m making faster progress.
You’ve got this! I’m cheering you on from afar!

I do this too! I restart my count at 1 after each 25. It helps a lot. I was contemplating trying 10 min of 10 EMOM, but wasn’t sure if that would be considered cheating or not. What do you think?

Thank you and SAME!!!
Happy I don’t have a leg press or I might try this
You could always do squats - like, see how just the bar feels and add weight if that’s too easy… #YoureWelcome ![]()

And added this late - because I saw it after I posted my first comment… I still feel like you need at least the bar… lol

Go for it! You know how I feel about rules: break them if that works better for you!
I read the article and am pretty confident if I tried 100 unbroken reps my heart would explode. Still…
let me think on it.

I may, I was thinking I could add some weight if I did it that way too… But that might be stupid. lol
my heart would explode
That’s just it getting an awesome “pump”. ![]()
If I’m being honest, I would rather squat than leg press. My body likes squats better, the leg press does some weird stuff to my hips. I’m starting to feel it already, so my need to switch to the 100 squats program too.

You don’t have to do them completely unbroken. On my first attempt, I had to take a little break at the 50 and 75-rep mark. But now I’ve gotten it down to only pausing at 75 reps. The goal is to be able to get through all 100 reps unbroken but still controlled. I’m not there yet though.
Also, I think @QuadQueen might play around with breaking them into 10 sets. So choose whatever works for you. There are no rules in my log. ![]()
Thanks! It may take a while to work up to 100, but I did manage 5 sets of 20 air squats without dying. Maybe there’s still hope ![]()
Then maybe I will try it with the bar. @QuadQueen
Lower Body
Leg press x 100 unbroken-ish.
This was truly terrible. I paused at 75 reps and grunted loudly on accident… which looks really stupid when you’re using a leg press with no weight on it.
Is it just me or is there this weird temptation to tell people that you’re going to 100, and you’re not just using the empty sled as a working weight on a normal rep range.
This is how long it takes me to do 100 controlled leg presses:
More Leg Press: 5x5
Set 1: 90
Set 2: 110
Set 3: 140
Set 4: 140
Set 5: 140
I suppose I’m progressing with more weight than before, which kind of makes me a liar. But who knows, next week my body may be achy and weird, and if that’s the case I’ll use less weight than I did today, and instead do slower reps or more reps… and then it would disqualify me from progressively overloading this exercise. Right?
Abductor Machine
I maxed out today, guys! Just kidding. That would be a funny thing to celebrate though.
4 x millions of burning full range reps then partials
B-Stance Dumbbell RDL
2 sets of 10-12 each leg with 30 pound dumbbells.
This was way more taxing than I’d expected, so I reduced the sets. I was really aiming for hamstrings, but the glutes and spinal erectors decided to help out too. I may have to post a video for this to see if anyone has pointers on getting the technique perfect. Probably went too heavy.
GYM ETIQUETTE THOUGHTS AND QUESTIONS
There have been a handful of viral videos going around over the past couple weeks, and they make my stomach turn.
It’s basically women showing up to the gym filming themselves while wearing clothes that expose a whole lot of skin… and then berating men who glance their direction, offer help, or say something completely benign. This is revolting and sad. Basic social skills are now a liability for men because of mean girls like this.
These bitchy brats are turning the gym into a colder and more unwelcoming place. When you teach men that any interaction is inappropriate, they’ll start to shut down. And then people will notice their standoffishness, and also stop trying to interact. It becomes a domino-effect of aloof people with no warmth or energy. And that’s not a world I want to live in.
One of my friends at the gym is named Glen. He’s outgoing and charismatic. Glen is going to get his pro card in bodybuilding soon. He’s enormous and wins a lot of competitions. So I asked him if he trains people and he said that in the past he helped quite a few women compete, but now, he can’t so much as say, “nice shoes” to a woman without getting accused of hitting on them.
I’m not saying that we need to interrupt each others’ workouts with chit chat. But saying good morning, thanks, hey are you still using that, does my form look okay, do you need this thing, or anything similar, are signs of common decency.
And glancing over at someone or noticing what they’re doing is also not weird or wrong. We’re in the gym to work out, so maybe if people keep looking at you, they’re wondering what the hell you’re doing.
Stop pretending to hate attention if you’re an attention whore.
Granted, I’m not always super modest in the gym. You can scroll up and see my stretchy pants, tank tops, and sports bras. And I’m also guilty of snapping pics/vids here and there. Chris will come over and take these if the gym is relatively empty and if he can stay out of the way of other people. But the main goal is just to be as considerate as possible.
Why do it at all? Good question. It feels terribly narcissistic and I may stop altogether, but I do this mainly to show proof that I’m walking the walk, and not just pretending to exercise. I also want people to see that – even though I don’t do what’s advised or trendy – my results don’t completely suck.
But, given all of the bad behavior in the gym, what’s the proper etiquette now?
If you’re being considerate to others and staying out of their way, is it bad to snap pictures or take a video? Is it bad to wear clothing that’s form fitting? Is it bad to say hello, good morning, or do you need this piece of equipment? Spill your thoughts below.
I think you nailed it on all points and I appreciate you writing it out.
Of course there’s nothing wrong with wearing what you want or filming yourself - that’s your prerogative! As you point out, the problem is picking a fight.
