My dad is starting to suffer for hair loss so I did some reading/podcast listening
The soft consensus seems to be that DHT is used locally-> serum dht has little impact on scalp dht. Blocking DHT overall to help hair is basically like ordering an air raid on a city to assassinate one person.
Andrew Tate has also bragged about exploiting young men by manipulating them to give money when using webcam services
That’s more gross imo bc Tate claims to want to help young men
Wow. That’s horrific. Glad you were there to keep it from escalating.
I think that’s why it’s called the great equalizer. The problem is, it’s not something you can learn to do in an hour. It takes ongoing practice, so I get why a lot of women aren’t into it. It’s a whole thing.
Absolutely. Use whatever you can.
There’s so much you can do, but it’s tricky. Most victims don’t know that someone is about to hurt them until they’re already too close. In that case a gun doesn’t really do any good.
I take him seriously because he’s an influencer for young angry men.
HA! That’s a great analogy.

Welcome to the team!
Upper Body
Cable Rear Delt Flye: 4 x failure, then another drop set to failure
Not sure why this is called a rear delt flye because it hits the entire shoulder. There’s less of an emphasis on the anterior delts, but the immediate mind-muscle connection covering the entire shoulder is insane.
The perk of isolating shoulders before hitting upper body is that you end up getting more delt involvement throughout the whole workout. This is especially true if you have dominant biceps or traps.
Cable Straight-Arm Pulldown: 4 x failure
Tricep Pulldown: 4 x failure
Chris and I just so happened to be using cable stacks right across from each other. This is always fun because I can pinch his butt when he’s not paying attention.
Incline Dumbbell Chest Press: 4 x failure
Controlled eccentric, powerful concentric. Awesome contraction and pump.
EZ Bar Curl: 4 x 10 controlled
Dumbbell Lateral Raise: 4 x 10-15
Listened to a lot of Beastie Boys and it honestly felt like an ergogenic aid. I was on fire today.
Tunes
WHOA. Seriously impressive! Now we need the details. What are your go-to eating and training strategies?
The OG is in the house! Hey, Nate!
Ha ha ha! It’s been a while Chris. Good to see you.
Nutrition during that entire time was high protein, low carb, and moderate fat.
I typically ate three meals/shakes and 1-2 snacks each day.
It was Primal Blueprint/Paleo/Whole30-ish.
I hate to say I used “Intermittent Fasting,” as it was more like a “Controlled Fast” because I trained fasted in the morning followed by a protein shake and my first meal at lunch.
Training was always three, short (20-30 minute) total-body Metabolic Resistance Training sessions (Mon, Wed Fri) and usually some sort of short Metabolic Conditioning sessions 1-3 times/week.
My Metabolic Resistance Training sessions were the same ones I developed (Metabolic Express Training - METBurn) and used with my coaching clients while I ran my fitness business.
I was also highly competitive in obstacle course races (Tough Mudder, Spartan, Savage Race, Superhero Scramble, etc.) and routinely placed in the top 3-5 in my age group despite NEVER running in my training or directly training for the actual obstacles.
Then the COVID PLANdemic happened, and I was forced to close my fitness business in July 2020.
I took a marketing/communications job in the Firearms industry which I loved, but it took a toll on me.
My body and health went down the toilet. I gained up to 30lbs at one point, my cholesterol went sky high (it was always on the high side due to genetics but not 300+ high!), I became pre-diabetic, and I was having a lot of chronic pain.
I lost that job last year and have been trying to rebuild my Fitness business (not happening as I hoped) while working a part-time job to help with finances.
I’ve been spending the last three years trying to regain my health and, hopefully, get as lean as I once was.
Fortunately, I have FINALLY gotten past injuries/pain (arthritis in my knees, arthritis/bursitis in my shoulders) and have regained most of my strength.
I’ve managed to lose a good portion of the weight/fat I gained in 2020-2021, but it has been the hardest and slowest progress I’ve ever had. I still need to lose at least 10-12lbs to be as lean as I was during those previous 10 years.
Fasting and a low-carb diet stopped working for me. I actually had to increase my calories and start eating protein/carb meals with far less fat. It’s the opposite of what I did, but it is working now. It’s crazy.
I need to take some updated photos since I’m down a few more pounds since Memorial Day (The Murph Challenge), so this is close to where I’m currently at:
That’s quite the journey! And you’re looking fantastic, but I totally get how you’d want to return to your previous body comp.
I keep seeing info on how going too low carb for too long can tank thyroid and test levels. So maybe reintroducing them at a higher level gave you a boost.
There was a woman who wrote a book (and an article for us) about the benefits of doing keto, but not forever, and she made some pretty good points. But it’s wild how over time, the strategies that worked the best suddenly stop doing what they used to.
Gotta run, but I’m so glad you swung by!

After maintaining it for so long and then having all that happen, I will continue to strive to do so even if I can’t get quite that close. I am getting older (creeping on 49), so I know it gets harder as we age.
The crazy thing is that my thyroid levels stayed normal, and my testosterone actually increased from 677 (total) in 2019 to 786 in 2022 (also when my cholesterol increased to just over 300).
However, I realized that I had actually been eating too few calories (and carbs) for too long to stay that lean, and it absolutely messed up my metabolism!
It just didn’t dawn on me until Tom (one of @Christian_Thibaudeau 's coaches) mentioned it during one of the Live T-Nation presentations a few months ago.
That’s when I increased my calories and carbs while reducing fats and finally started seeing fat loss again!

I’ll check that out! Although I didn’t follow Keto (that was too low in protein and too high in fat for me), just being super low carb for so long definitely messed me up.
Thanks! Good to pop in (I just happened to see this topic in my daily T-Nation email newsletter).
I haven’t posted much in the last 13-14 years (I miss the good ole forum days from 1998-2009) when I was busy running my fitness business (and social media exploded). ![]()
Did you come back to regulate?
…Sorry.
Regulators! MOUNT UP! ![]()
You’re right, that is crazy, but also really good to hear that they stayed up.
Very interesting. I’m so glad you solved that mystery.
Come to think of it, if you’re having success with high carbs, then don’t go check that out. haha. You’re good! Keep doing what you’re doing. I was just reminded of that article because you’d had such massive success going low carb – even though your version was higher protein and lower fat – and then things changed.
I think the low carb approach has its place, but for many it’s hard to do (with success) super long term.
You left this community right when I started dating Chris and discovered T Nation. So we never got the chance to meet, but Chris filled me in on how great you were/are. We’d love to have you back!
