Today’s Workout
Had to make it quick. Our contractor was coming over to deliver homemade meatloaf and trout. How did I get so lucky?!
Tri-set:
- Battle Ropes: To failure, all out
- Banded No-Money: 10-15 reps or until failure
- Band Pull-Apart: 10-15 or till failure
Rest 1 minute, restart. I’m going faster with the battle ropes now, but also testing something out…
Here’s the deal. I need a stronger support hand when shooting. This has been a recurring issue, but you can’t train to have a stronger grip when just dry-firing. Why? Because there’s no boom. There’s no violent movement coming out of your hands that would cause your grip to come apart.
So now, when I do battle ropes, I’m gripping the heck out of the rope, particularly with my left hand. It’s not a perfect simulation, but it’s the closest thing I can think of.
Superset:
- Machine Hip Thrust: 3 x 10-15 Full ROM, drop set with partials
- Dip: 3 x 5-7
Butt pump!! And then since it’s next to the dip stand I cranked out a few of those. What’s wild is that when my testosterone was so freaking low a few weeks ago, I couldn’t do ONE REP without joint pain.
So, I hadn’t done dips in several weeks and here I am today, getting 5-7 and feeling it in the pecs. Hopefully a sign T-levels are on the rise.
- Leg Extension: 3 X 10 to failure, drop set for 5 reps
Burning reps that make you hinge over in the seat and do accidental rest-pause sets.
- Trap Bar Squat: 3 x 15, 12, 10
- Trap Bar Shrugs: 3 x 10
Had to be really careful here because I wasn’t sure what my hamstring would tolerate. It feels great right now and I want to keep that up. Shrugs felt awesome.
I have the genetics to build really large traps, but never really wanted to because they’re not particularly feminine. But if hitting them allows me to train upper body without shoulder pain, I’m all in.
Jack outdid himself. This is the best meatloaf I’ve ever had. It’s half pork, half beef, tons of green chilies, and he smoked it instead of baking it!
I was not planning on having meatloaf for a mid morning “snack” but here we are.
Smoking meatloaf is great idea. I love the stuff, and it is easy to painlessly add stuff like cottage cheese, spices, veggies and flaxseed to make it surprisingly nutritious.
Dang! Those are great ideas!
You don’t notice any of those things. I particularly suggest grated carrot and lots and lots of onion. Instead of bread or crackers to absorb added liquid, use oatmeal, wheat germ and/or wheat bran. Will anyone know it is nutritious? Only if you tell them.
Mmmmm, looks yummy!
Been lurking for a while, finally decided to sign up. I am so in for this log!
Awww yeah! Stoked you’re on here and I love your name. That’s really fun!
Hehe! I should prolly cut back on my namesake, but they are just so good!
Let me know if you get a log set up to track your workouts! ![]()
Yeah, I might in a bit. I think I will lurk around and get to know the forums a bit first. Or maybe I will just go all in? ![]()
Do it!! Or do whatever feels comfortable to you. We support you.
All in is good. This is an accepting group.
Yesterday’s upper sesh:
Giant Set x 3:
- Battle Rope Sprint
- Band No-Money
- Band Pull-Apart
- Push-Up
Rest 1 minute between sets.
Superset:
- Incline DB Bench
- DB Shrug
This probably isn’t the best superset because what tends to feel a ton of fatigue are the forearms and grip/hands. However, I do really want to increase forearm and grip strength, so that may not be a bad thing…? The traps and chest are still getting hit really well.
Superset:
- Lateral Raise
- Slight Incline Arnold Press
My shoulders were looking pretty big, but the funny thing is, I was only using 10 pound dumbbells for these. Even so, hitting 8-10 reps was a challenge on that overhead press! Definitely lost strength from taking a big break this winter.
- Seated Cable Row
Feels good to be doing back work without pain again! I’m going heavier on these but still conscientious of previous scap/shoulder issues.
- Kneeling Cable Pulldown
I would’ve used a standard pulldown setup, but they were all occupied, so this was the next best thing.
Did not have time for any direct arm work. But this was pretty great.
Facts:
They’re always “helping” aren’t they?
When you live in Colorado, where plastic bags are banned, you get excited that your mom has a bunch of plastic bags inside a plastic bag for you to take home.
Agreed!
Thanks Friedrich and Dani! ![]()
What a precious baby!!! Thank you for posting this sweet face. This log can always use more dog, so post your pup pics anytime.
