Thank you so much!

I have a cousin who did that. He lives in the Sacramento area. They provide him with a mini-home, food vouchers, a cell phone “for safety”, and a stipend. If my great uncle were alive to see this he would probably beat the scheit out of him. In the mean time others get up, go to work, pay taxes, and get punished for being responsible. Go ahead, sleep in, or all day for that matter.

I saw you brought your guns to the stand-up show.

There’s a decent comedy scene in my city and I am seeing this happen too. The last show I went to had 6 or 7 performers and pretty much all of them had the dirty humor schtick. It’s funny at first but by the end the shock value wears off. And what’s really interesting was there was a performer who I had seen before, and her act was way more raunchy this time around.

That’s a good way to put it with the shock value. It kind of reminds me of middle school. But there are a lot of hyper-vulgar comedians who make millions, so what do I know?

Even so… My dude, I’m one of these (^^^, i.e., a Jesus-follower), and I appreciate so much of what you said here. Your responses are generally very, very thoughtful—and I think anyone can appreciate that.

Sorry, @Dani_Shugart, don’t want to hijack the conversation, but I actually felt compelled to acknowledge @Andrewgen_Receptors’s post: It resonates.

The comedians who are funny doing raunchy material are also funny when they do cleaner stuff. This is not true of many amateur comedians who rely on raunch to keep the audience interested.

I watched Leonarda Jonie do stand up recently. Raunchy and vulgar, etc. At first I chuckled a bit, but you are all correct, it wears off. Growing up Richard Pryor, George Carlin, the Andrew Dice Clay, were vulgar, but they were funny. Today the more F words a comedian throws in their set, does not necessarily make it funnier. I say the F word myself, but the more I use it does not make me a riot.

George Carlin is among the best ever. He was occasionally crude, but not usually. His Seven Words You Can’t Say is great, but so are The Ten Commandnents and his books.

Personally, I don’t think Dice aged well. Jeselnick stole his persona and does it much better.

I never listened very much to Pryor. I liked his movies, and there is no doubting the huge number of comedians who quote him as a strong influence and consider him Top Five.

Did you see Demetri Martin’s latest special? I think you’d like it. Here’s a clip:

I like Dimitri. Not sure if I know the new stuff or not, since I usually listen to comedy radio.

Yeah you’d need to watch that on Netflix. He’s a pretty visual comedian.

I’ll look on Netflix.

Here is Aziz’s hilarious ask-the-audience “Five Star Restaurant Proposal”.

And Josh Sneed’s Garage Sale.

He makes some great faces as he moves along through his stories. I think he did the voice of a dog or something too in an animated kids movie a while back, which was basically him, just as a dog.

My list should, of course, include Ron White.
