I don’t think this record will stand as long as Malanichev’s with a couple of lifters close and gunning for it.
Who do you guys think will be the next to break the ATWR total?
I got:
Daniel Bell
Dylan Hellreigel
Graham Hicks
Pavlo Nakonechny
Petr Petras
Hafthor if he feels like competing in powerlifting
Edit: Ray Williams too if he rediscovers his mojo or goes full untested
It depends a lot on the individual judges. The fastest press command I ever got were in IPF-affiliated meets. CPF (the WPC affiliate) is slower in my experience at 2 meets, but there I think it’s because they have the center judge down by your feet instead of behind your head so if you arch they can’t actually see the bar touching your chest. WPC is actually stricter than IPF when it comes to benching, you get red lights for an uneven lockout and “pronounced uneven extension” during the lift.
It was one time!!! and I was anticipating the lifter touching, christ it had been a long day, you give out 1 lift and suddenly the entire world remembers

Is was thinking more like anything Mark Bell touches lol like Reebok Record Breakers
He also sponsors the USAPL meet at the Arnold, and judging isn’t loose there. I don’t blame him for the judging, but I blame him for promoting Record Breakers.
Beats peak Ray Williams by about 15kg. Fingers crossed we keep seeing incredible performances like this from Dan Bell

He’s only 33 so he has a while still. Probably should aim to break some squat records with and without wraps.

Total records easy I dunno about squat records. He’s a solid 40kg off wraps and sleeves no?
Without wraps yes, but in wraps he’s only about 20kg off from the full meet record. When you squat over 1000lbs that isn’t much.
Also worth mentioning that he is the second person to ever squat 1000 and deadlift 900 in the same meet, and the first to do it in sleeves

I saw this and did not like how multiple people seemed to be touching the weights and him through the whole squat.
Now that u point it out dem hands are real close.

But they swore it was all him!
Yeah, I didn’t catch that at first. It looks like only on his right side is someone in contact with the plates during the lift, but that back spotter has his arms touching him from start to finish. It’s not like it was a forced rep and it’s impossible to tell how much they actually helped, but it could easily be 20-30lbs. Bad spotting. Can’t blame him and he squatted to depth too, but RPS isn’t really known for being strict.
I was looking over the USPA rulebook the other day because I’m doing an IPL-affiliated meet, they have directions for spotters including:
While back spotting for the squat, the hands should never be around the lifter’s side protruding out the front or holding the chest. The spotter should be directly behind the lifter with their arms bent up at the elbows just behind the lifter’s back, hand height approximately just below the lifter’s arm pits. The spotter’s body should follow the lowering and raising of the lifter’s body during the lift. Should the lifter get into trouble the back spotter will then immediately come under the lifter’s arm pits with their arms, taking control of the lifter while returning to the rack. The back spotter should position his hands to provide the critical support in the rapid manner, but not to obstruct the side referees view of the depth in the squat.
Also just about every fed has a rule like this for causes for disqualifying a squat:
Contact with the bar by the spotter/loaders between the referee’s signals.
Not Bell’s fault, but not good still.

Dan Bell is competitions quite frequently it seems. 1130kg total with a 455kg squat which is quite a ways below his max (when he set the ATWR he squatted a solid 25-30kg more).
Dunno why the relatively light squat for him perhaps judging was strict but it seems like he is good/close to beat his current ATWR total.
EDIT: having to walk out the squat may have taken a chunk off the top

It’s only 60lbs off his best squat, which is about 6%. Makes sense. Looks like it’s very hard to make any more progress at his level, only PR is another 6lbs on bench.
