What did you use as your 1RM on bench? And when was the last time you moved it?
Could it have just been an off day?

I benched 115 last week (with minimal help). I guess it was just a bad day :-/
Yay!! Singlet pics!! waits patiently
Hm…yeah, that definitely sounds like an off day re: the bench. You’ll hit it next time!
Great training, girlie! And I also wanted to say thanks for posting that DL article in the PWQ sticky. I loved it and am now a huge fan of this “Girls gone strong”! Great find.
Keep killin’ it!
ha I’m waiting patiently for my singlet too actually! I ordered it a week ago and it doesn’t appear to have even shipped yet and they’re not responding to my emails. Yikes!
I love that “Girls gone Strong” page as well! Inspiring stuff in there.

Notes: I’ve failed a lot on all of my lifts this month and I wanted to build some confidence before getting to the meet. I think this did the trick. I finally got my singlet in the mail yesterday. I look like a bony worm.
On top of that, I just got a lovely visit from Aunt Flo. God damnit. I’m hoping this doesn’t affect my performance this weekend. Blah.
OMG Why didn’t I realize it was this weekend!?
GO DANI! Aunt Flo has NOTHING on you. NOTHING! You are mentally and physically strong, and well prepared!
plus I’d put money on the fact that you are the hottest bony worm out there ![]()
lol I guess I haven’t really posted too much about it being this weekend. Don’t feel bad.
And I’ll post a pic of the bony worm and you’ll change your mind haha

I am competing this weekend as well. Just going to get one pull, really. But I have to get my head wrapped around it. Good luck to you! And have fun!

Awesome, good luck!
Good luck at your meet!
Thanks Nadia!
I don’t know if I mentioned this ladies, but I’m the only one in my weight class. Pretty easy win huh? lol
Here are my planned attempts.
Squat 105, 115, 125
Deadlift 175, 185, 200
Bench 85, 95, 105
Hi Dani, great progress! I know this is from forever ago in your log, but I also tore my MCL doing BJJ. After healing, I still have some instability there, but especially in BJJ it is super easy to work around. If you really liked grappling, don’t be too quick to shelve it forever. If you modify your game by avoiding things like triangles that torque your bad side, and always work an open guard, you’ll find that you can still kick all kinds of ass. The coolest thing about BJJ and judo is that everyone has their own game which minimizes their weaknesses and plays to strengths. Just a thought ![]()

Guess what? Meets are always more about competing against yourself than others
Winning the group is an added bonus for most people, I would think. What’s important is if you’re happy with the effort you put out on the floor that day. Don’t downplay your numbers or your ability! You’ve worked hard for this!
Now, go have a great meet!

I appreciate the suggestion but BJJ destroyed both of my knees. I’m pretty sure I have bursitis in both my knees along with all of the other crap going on and I really can’t even kneel. I miss BJJ but for me, it’s not worth it to continue.

That’s a great point Pixie. I really didn’t care about what other competitors were going to do anyways. I will be happy as long as I reach the goals that I have set for myself. Someday I’d like to be more competitive though and see where I’m at compared to other women.
Kill it!!!
good luck ![]()
Hey guys, here is a write up of my first powerlifting meet that I lifted in today. I hope others can learn from my mistakes/successes and also give some input on what I can improve on.
Some things that I learned from this experience:
You can change your numbers in between your attempts! I had no idea I could do this and was stressing about picking my numbers and getting them right not realizing I could adjust them based on how I was feeling.
I’m not sure if it is always like this, but they separated groups into ‘flights’. I guess the reason for this is to make it easier loading and unloading the bar? Anywho, I was at the top of the list because my numbers were the lowest so I had to go first. VERY nerve wracking! I enjoyed this though because I hung out with the same group of people and they were a good support team.
Competition lifts are much harder (for me personally) because of the nerves. I don’t even remember my first squat because I was so nervous. I apparently didn’t listen to the commands and tried to rack too soon hence the one red light.
To bench, your entire foot must be flat on the floor! This threw me off completely and definitely negatively affected my bench as you’ll see in the video. It wasn’t horrible but I was so used to the way I have been benching that I didn’t feel comfortable.
Anyways, sorry for the lengthy post. Here’s a video of my competition. In my opinion, it was a success. I reached my goals, didn’t embarrass myself and am so motivated to compete again and lift even more. My total was 420 at 132 pounds. Thanks for all who have supported me on this forum. You’ve all helped me get into the world of powerlifting.
Video coming soon, it’s taking forever to upload
Ahh, you have so much more in you, girly! Congratulations!
Glad you had a positive first meet experience. Watch out: they’re addictive!
I would work on putting a little more arch in your back during the DL. You’re young and, thus, your back is probably forgiving. But it may not always be.
Glad it went well. Now you know what you’re doing you’ll do even better in the future.
