The public is enthralled with dramatic body changes for roles. It gets a lot of attention for the film and the actor. Even more true for women. If a beautiful woman packs on the lbs and wears bad/no makeup, she’s damn near guaranteed to get the Oscar nod. That kind of yoyo-ing definitely has to take it’s toll on the body thoug.
And not just the public. Reportedly, Matt Damon got his breakthrough in Saving Private Ryan after losing 100+ lbs for the role and showing a “dedication to his craft” kind of thing.

I was watching MacGruber the other day, and it took me like half an hour.
‘Holy fuck is that Val Kilmer!?’
I made it through the whole flick Felon without realizing it was Kilmer.
He was good in that one.

What is the obsession with Christian Bale with some people on this site?
I remember a thread awhile back where people were saying that he had the ideal physique in batman or some shit. Same type of people who think brad pit was “THOOPER BUFF” in Fight Club.
I believe many would consider that to be Daniel Day Lewis or Edward Norton (Not me). I like Christian Bale (Perfect in “American Psycho”), but hardly the best actor of our time. Not sure if that was sarcasm. He was very mediocre in Batman with that ridiculous angry voice.
This movie would be good, but Mark Wahlberg’s in it, and he’s unarguably the biggest douchebag of our time! A smug, racist dick who deserves nothing that he’s been given. Terrible actor, too.
I really liked “Boogie Nights,” though. Even still, P.T. Anderson should’ve chosen a different actor for the role.
