Curls Gone Wild

i’d like to hold allison upside down feeling good…

I love reading about flailing sexy pole vaulters, with upside down rope, which results in big butts.

Butt, I actually have a serious question:

Are you purposefully doing the Anderson squats higher than, plus lower than, your regular squat depth? And will doing squats down to the pins, with a pause, provide the same/similar results as the Anderson?

Yes plus yes and yes. I start from the bottom because I’m not man enough to quit cheating the pause.

Sooooooooo…

I bought a belt. Let’s see if this makes any difference on squats.

I have pondered the way of the belt user but I’m not there yet.

Attempted dips and bench but something really hurts in the right shoulder. Funny enough I can overhead press just fine so:

Clean and Press (1 clean 3 presses)
135x5,5
155 3x5 sets

Sumo DL
225x5
315x3
405x2
450 1x3 sets

Bent Row
225 2x5 sets

Still a bit chewed up from the bike ride yesterday. It all felt heavy. Alternately icing and heating the shoulder.

This feels like an out-of-the-powerlifting-meet kind of ouch.

That shoulder does not sound like good news. I hope its better already.

I have also pondered the purchase of a belt, but haven’t pulled the trigger.

belting is cool, if you wear it loose enough. mine’s too small now, so I don’t get much out of it. i need to stop being a cheapskate and buy a new one

Bench Press(paused)
140x5
190x3
210x2
235x1,1,1 (240 next time)
210x5

Anderson Squat (pin 5 parallel)
210x3
250x3
280x3
310x2
340x1
360x1

Standing Seated Row (because I love oxymorons)
240 5x2 sets

Shoulder is feeling just fine. Weird because it hurt like hell yesterday just reaching to open the door. I think decent calorie intake and 10 hours sleep probably did the trick. Photo is of the rowing set up. Need to add some 4 inch cinderblocks to get a bit more stretch betwixt the shoulder blades.

congrats on the shoulder healage. no excuses for the meet now.

I’ve noticed various joint pains here and there if I don’t eat/sleep enough. Chalk it up to old age.

I like your deload plan. Pushing ROM with the lighter weights sounds like the way to go.

What the hell is that contraption on the floor? Just curious, when you see an engine block on a garage floor do you fall in love?

I likes me some lifting gadgets. Thats cool as hell!

Shoulders…can’t live with 'em, can’t live w/o 'em. Gawd, they can be so bewildering.

(I hate stupid, weird rules like: “i” before “e”, except after “c”.)

That’s my cable rowing machine - without the cable, the seat or the machine.

Not love, no - I think, “I’ll bet I could pick that up…”

Feeder workout/Mucking about

Clean and Press (1 clean/press, 20sec rest)
145 1x20 sets or so.

Cheat curls
145 3x2 sets (slow negative)

I lost count on presses due to drooling over the Crain’s Muscle World catalog which came with my belt.

That feeder workout got me all ready to do something heavy, which I’m not supposed to do until tomorrow. Really looking forward to High Anderson squats. I think I’m going to have some good results there. Me and Fortinbras, my belt.

fortinbras? there has to be a story there…

yesterday i purchd a spud inc 3ply deadlift belt from elite. I feel like a kid waiting for christmas

Nah - no story there. Fortinbras just sounds like a very supportive name.

I going to write “I heart flowers and unicorns” on the back of my belt.

Thinking of buying pink UnderArmour clothing too. Really like how the compression bottoms show off the junk.

“ForteBrah” would make such a kewl nom de guerre, 'yo.

AM session

Bench lockouts (Pin 5, 2-board height)
140x8
190x5
225x3
250x3
270x1
290x1
300x1
280x1
260x5

High Anderson Squat (pin 6 - 4" abv par.)
260x3
300x3
340x3
380x2
410x1
430x1 (PR +20lbs)

Low Anderson Squat (pin 4 - 4" below par.)
320x1 (matched max weight - +30 over last time)

This is going better than expected. Putting volume into bench, but the squat seems to be the best responder to this program. I’m not taking any backoff sets for it so I can put the effort into upping my bench some before the meet in April.

Looking forward to sumo pulling 475 in 2 days. If that goes well I’m going to try 500.

PM Session
Barbell Close Grip Face Presses (first two fingers on the smooth)
140 4x5

Pendlay Rows
245 5x2 sets (PR +2 reps)
