Curls Gone Wild

Might have a line on an operations engineering job with a large-ish SW vendor. I know a guy fairly high up the food chain there and did well in the culling interview. He’s going to put in a good word for me. Good company, interesting work and an actual career path. And they have a decent gym on site. Got my fingers crossed.

Geez - hope I didn’t jinx it…[/quote]

Wish you the best, I’ve been in that boat.

fingers and toes crossed…

So virtually everyone who entered the virtual meet backed out of it. It was me and one other guy…who was also competing in a concurrent Oly meet and chose to lift for that on the same day.

Not too competitive a meet there. Disappointing.

That sucks Tony, remind me the next time you do it and I’ll give it a shot. You’ll whoop me good but at least it’ll be something.

But all your lifts were and you bumped your total - yes?

DCA, an fyi in case you have an interest, since you dabble in OL -Catalyst Athletics in Sunnyvale has a weightlifting class for $20, open to non-members, no pre-registration required, this Sat. the 28th at 10 am.

BW 184

Squat Clean and Press
115x3
135x3
155x2
170 1x7 sets

Front squats
185x3
205x3
225x3
245x2
265x2 (belt)
275x1
285xfail

Snatch High pulls
275x5,5 (in outstandingly crappy form)

1-arm BB press (rt)
45x5
65x5
75x3
85x0,1
70x5

Felt really off today. Hitting reasonable numbers but they feel harder to get than they should. I think my expectations are really high is all.

Squat clean and press: Having trouble making the arm transition from clean receiving position to press position.

Front squat - may need to work reps on these rather than singles.

Snatch grip high pulls: total clusterf***. Do these before strength work, since they are explosive.

My kind of competition – I can always hope for a third place if there is only one other person competing

Sorry it worked out like that for you, next time I hope is better.

I’d love to do that. Unfortunately my son is having four friends over that day (and overnight) and the wife is out of the house.

Now where did I put my apron?

Well, if you insist on looking at the bright side - yes.

Glenn Pendlay is critiquing videos of Olympic lifts in Thibaudeau’s forum. The clean & press is technically not an OL, but he seems like an extremely nice guy, very responsive.

Also check out the California Strength site, Pendlay has a bunch of snatch tutorial videos in there.

I bookmarked California Strength some months ago. I’ll check the vids.

Thanks punnyguy.

I think you need to hit yourself a bunch of times
with o-lifts either on the way up or the way down.

I’m serious bailing on the lift is a good teacher
its like a back hand spring fear of falling,
slows down the process

Im not great at them, but they are fun as hell

good luck with the j.o.b.

Couldn’t stand it - I went and ordered a Burgener-Rippetoe Oly bar today. Should be the last bar I’ll ever need.

Congratulations, did you get the Burgener bearing bar? I have the B&R bar for the slow lifts, works great for power cleans too.

Good luck on the job front, i’m sure you’ll make out well with your work ethic.

whoa - that’s quite a bar! nice

How well does the B&R bar work for the quick lifts? I’m planning on getting a bumper set as well.

Don’t understand how you can’t end up with arms in proper position. Are your elbows up? Is the bar in too close to your body? Or what? Can you video?

I used to train with any Oly lifter a few years ago and hence do these all the time (with paltry weights, I will admit). Really loved this motion.

I’m receiving the bar just fine. Elbows up and all that good stuff. But to press I have to retract my shoulders and drop my elbows and that’s a little awkward. I think most lifters bounce the bar in rack position to achieve this, but I haven’t started doing that yet so it’s still really awkward.
