Nahhh. I train alone and I get the same way if someone talks to me when I training. You just get used to not chatting. Besides, you’re probably the first person who complimented her on form. Everyone else probably tells her she shouldn’t do squats like that or some sort of nonsense.
Or more likely, they just stand and stare…trying to figure out what she is doing. A broken zone is a terrible thing, though.

I get the same feeling sometimes, Tony. I worry that the fact that I, and I suspect you, do not place strangers high on my list of things I want to see and interact with somehow shows, when actually interacting.
Or maybe I just look like a predator  My wife says that there is always a high level of intensity in my eyes. Enough that I can be scary, if you don’t know me. I think she means I look like a serial killer.

I often compliment people when I see a really good squat at my gym. It’s not very often and it’s almost always men (since so few women use the cage). They always seem flustered as well.

Strangers? Isn’t that what guns are for? j/k.

Your assessment of my feelings about strangers is correct, but not because I dislike people, but because I’m mortally shy. It’s a miracle I’ve ever had sex.

This is a subject that has been beat to death, but the vid is still funny.

Although my dislike (or perhaps intolerance) of certain people has grown, as I have aged, shyness has always been my issue as well.
I was a late bloomer with respect to the fairer sex. You kind of have to be able to go up and talk to them before you can move further along. In the end, hormones won out.

Dragged out today from yesterday. Won’t have time to train tomorrow so…there ya go. Pressing was like pushing sandbags overhead under water. Pretty pleased with deadlift. Could give a rats patootie about rows right now really.

Dude in the gym tonight, tall and cut, but skinny (glass houses Tony!), had not a good word about anybody. Running everybody down to this girl he’s trying to impress. Had his feathers all puffed out struttin’ his stuff. He puts 135 on the bar and proceeds to complain about how much it hurts as he attempts to row it. I’m in the next rack doing light push presses with 30 lbs more than he can row. Did I mention he was bigger than me?

He shut up and left when I started deadlifting.

I shoulda started DL’ing sooner.

And somebody there needs to tell me WHY there are televisions in the free weight area? Seems counter-productive… A bunch of guys were in there, not lifting weights and - to the last man - looking like geese surprised by the rain, gazing up at the televisions, eyes glazed and mouths open.

It’s a hypno machine. It must be.

Notes:
Savickas Press: Read about these in the strongman forum and thought I’d give them a try. They do much the same thing for me as BTN push presses but are harder due to the need to balance oneself. Keepers.

Band Squats: Bettered my last attempt at these by 50 lbs of bar weight. Top end is purportedly 465. Bands kick in half way up right at my sticking point so these were SUPER.

Fried by the time I got to pullups and I lost some reps on 'em. I should maybe have stuck to bodyweight. Lats feel really good though.

was that the endearing towhead banging out the pushups behind your pressing endeavours? what a stud.

the band squats. impressive. i have just decided not to ever do them. especially with neither monolift nor powerrack. you never cease to amaze!

Great work. Those band squats looked wicked.

Yes, it was him. He’s pissed because he used to bang 15-30 of them when he was doing competitive gymnastics. That was 30 lbs and 3 years ago though so I’m telling him to just keep working them and he’ll be able to do more at one time after a while.

The bands definitely want to flip you backward. Those are the fastest walkouts I’ve ever done for squats.

That was the first set. Sets 2 and 3 got nastier.

Thanks kimbakimba.

I think that, having figured out the ‘scoop’ style, I might have 495 in me next time.

I’ll be waiting for the second half of this article

Very nice band squats. Do you get your band from elitefitness systems?
scottgomez wrote:

Those particular bands in the vid I did get from elitefts. All my others were purchased from Iron Woody. IW’s bands aren’t quite as strong for each size as the Jumpstretch bands EFS sells, but they do the job.

Thanks, I have some bands from elite, but they are quite pricey. How are the Iron Woody ones in comparison?

Cleans were hurting my shoulders from stopping the weight on my thighs. Bar is a sinlock standard bar and doesn’t rotate when weights are on it and secured so all the deceleration was going in to the back of the shoulders. Felt like toothaches down my arms, so I stopped. Sacrum is whiny too so I think it’s time to go light on squats and deads for a bit.

Curls went pretty well considering I haven’t really done them for a few weeks.

I’m very glad I’m healthy enough to do this stuff, even if it means my wife makes me move furniture regularly.
