Curcumin for Fat Loss?

I’m not for sure if anyone has posted this study or not, but it’s rather interesting.

Found in the May 2009 Journal of Nutrition
Curcumin inhibits adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and angiogenesis and obesity in C57/BL mice.

“Supplementing the high-fat diet of mice with curcumin did not affect food intake but reduced body weight gain, adiposity, and microvessel density in adipose tissue, which coincided with reduced expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor VEGFR-2.”

Just another reason why we ALL should be taking curcumin. Hopefully, we’ll see more studies confirming this potential benefit.

The study showed that it reduced weight GAIN, not reduced fat or produced a weight loss. It did this by ceasing the growth or production of blood vessels, which did not allow fat cells to grow.

If curcumin will not allow for the growth or production of blood vessels, wouldn’t that also cause muscle growth to cease?

Reread that quotation, and you’ll answer your own question. Also, “reduced adiposity”. Think about it.

It’s the “coincided with reduced expression of vascular endothelial growth factor” that concerns me.

I can lose fat without curcumin.

I can take the pain. It is part of what I do.

I will not give up gains to ease the pain. Granted, the study was performed on mice, not humans, and the results may not transfer. But if the growth of blood vessels is inhibited, and the growth of blood vessels is the key ingredient of muscular hypertrophy, then it would follow that progress would stop. Just like “reduced adiposity”.

I am willing to wait until someone completes the study on humans, or enough people here become willing guinea pigs. I work too fucking hard to come up empty. I hope you do, too.

The outlook I take is that Curcumin, and other supps that improve my overall health, make it both easier and more efficient to lose fat.

I recently started taking Curcumin to help relieve pain in my left wrist that has kept me from doing any grip intensive exercise- basically all deadlifts and upper body pulling exercises.

Can’t make gains if you can’t get into the gym to train.
