Critique Da Diet!

Why do people make it sound like 95% of the world’s population can’t handle wheat and dairy?

Brick’s not nomming on nitrate-cured bacon all day. But he’s going to die because he had cheese on wheat? Bah.

I guess I’m part of the 5% that has an extraordinary digestive system.

EDIT: I’m not being bitchy, just venting; I’ve encountered quite a bit of pushy Paleos in my day, so I take my frustration out on the innocent… :D
I can’t speak about dairy, but in my experience, I look, feel and perform waaaay better when I limit my grains to every once in a while rather than every meal. It’s HUGE for me. I still eat some pancakes, some baked goods on occasion, but limiting them from diet is the best thing I’ve ever done for my health! So I can understand how people get on that bandwagon.

My experience as well. I also eat grains, but it may be once per week if that. It’s just so much easier to gets cals with a pizza or spaghetti and meatballs. Tonight will be perfect as yesterday was a brutal leg workout and today is an off day. And football later

It’s refreshing every once in a while to see a more “normal” diet around here. I keep telling myself that I’m gonna make the switch to something like this soon. “Just 10 pounds more muscle and 5 pounds less fat and then you’re gonna eat like a regular dude”. Then I get to where I want to be and convince myself I’m going to push a little farther.

Once I do feel completely comfortable with the state of my physique (if that day ever comes lol) I’m gonna switch over to something like this and I figure that if I stay active and keep lifting regularly, though not optimal, it will keep me at a happy medium of looking/performing good/well while also allowing me to live like a normal cat.

Soon.

Suuuuure…and so why did you create this thread? :stuck_out_tongue:

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I was semi-buzzed from a few glasses of wine here and decided to type out my currently less-than-stellar diet because of the trend to post diets. I actually don’t know why I made the thread now that I think of it.
lol, fair enough.

I thought that sounded funny when I was typing it.

Likewise matey. If I ever make it back to Noo Yawk, I’ll look you up for a beer and a subway!

BBB - have you ever tried supplementing with additional vitamin D to see if that helps?

I honestly had some lactose issues with dairy and cheese (not severe, but if I consumed too much it would cause bloating and cramps) and used a lactase supplement. However, after suspecting I was D deficient, I added 2,000 IUs every other day (or every 3rd day since I want to avoid any kind of toxicity from a fat soluble vitamin) and it helped tremendously. A huge difference in colon health. So much so that I don’t use the lactase, and have no dairy issues at all. You may already know this, but vitamin D may increase a protein called Bax, which plays a role in the controlling apoptosis in the colon.

Also, high levels of vitamin D were also linked to higher levels of E-cadherin, which reportedly plays a role in the movement and proliferation of colon cells. It’s one study, so take it for what it’s worth, but empirically, I did notice a big improvement for myself.

As for grains, they never give me any kind of stomach issues at all, so I can’t comment on that.

Try it and see what happens. Your quality of life might take on a different form.

On most days I eat a bit cleaner.

Like here’s what today looked like.

Meal 1
7 egg whites with 1 yolk with onions and peppers and cheddar cheese
oatmeal
strawberries

Meal 2
Sandwich (multi-grain bread, turkey, swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, canola mayo)
apple
Chobani Greek yogurt cup

Meal 3
Large salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers) with half an avocado and vinegar
salmon steak
mashed potato (plain) with small amount of fat free gravy
grapes

Yesterday

Meal 1
Same breakfast as listed above but I added some ham to the omelet

Pre-run snack
Clif Builder’s Bar

Went running

Meal 2 (starving after hours of not eating and going running)
BIG meal at a bar (probably 1000 to 1500 calories):
large bowl of chili (had no idea how big it was gonna be)
Caesar’s salad with chicken and hard cooked egg on top

NO more meals for rest of day because calories were met for the day.

Honestly though, I don’t miss dairy enough to pop yet more supps in an attempt to let me consume the stuff pain free - especially when it is so bad for my physique.

If I want to occasionally eat some cheddar or a cream-filled pastry, then I just do it, and hope the pain is kept at bat by warrant of eating ‘low irritant’ for the rest of that day.

Thanks again though Skynett!

Anytime sir! : )

But yea - if you really don’t miss eating it, then there is no reason to try and force a situation in which you could tolerate it. Best to just cut it completely - plenty of other food sources will provide the same nutrients.

BBB - do you have an email I could reach you at? I don’t think you can receive my PM’s here. Thanks, I wanted to ask you something.

Thanks for the idea, no I have never tried extra vit D for gut health, only for general health, and vit D3 for mental health (works).

Vitamin D isn’t just another supp to pop though. It is a vital hormone, and if levels are not optimal, many aspects of health suffer.

Of course, I would get blood levels tested rather than just randomly pop it. But I would think that if you live in the UK, you probably need more D. And research is showing that people have to take MUCH higher amounts than previously thought to get blood levels up. I have personally witnessed this with a friend of mine, and we live in sunny Southern California.

Tried cleaning things up a little yesterday:

Meal 1
7 egg whites, 1 yolk, peppers and onions, 1 oz cheese
small amount of Smart Balance butter
1 cup oatmeal
strawberries

Meal 2
large multi-grain roll
ham, turkey, Swiss cheese, canola mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions
apple

Pre-run in the f---- freezing cold!: Greek yogurt, nuts, raisins

Meal 3:
Large salad with olive oil and vinegar
hodge podge of mashed potatoes and 6 oz lean ground beef with fat free gravy
grapes

I’m confused. What about the other 5 meals you ate that day?

Hey dude,

I’m curious. What does your diet look like? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it outlined on the site.

That’s because he eats babies. It’s wise not to advertise when that is the case.

He eats:

 1. Liverwurst sandwich

 2. Liverwurst sandwich

 3. Liverwurst sandwich

 4. Liverwurst sandwich

 5. Liverwurst sandwich

Damn Germans.

I’m probably hitting up a German place this Friday. Probably gonna get a krainerwurst, bratwurst, and potato salad deal there. Or a hunter’s cutlet.

Most Germans are on the Anabolic Diet

I often have braunschweiger with my eggs in the morning.

Chicken schiniztel (sp?) is always a good choice.

I’m not sure what the big deal is about grains/dairy–I include about 3-4 servings of each a day when I’m not prepping for a contest.

There has not been ONE high ranking or elite bodbybuilder athlete who avoids grain and dairy intake!

I want the anti-grain-anti-dairy-Paleo squad to show me one.

What Olympia competitor doesn’t eat grains?

What high ranking NATURAL bodybuilder doesn’t eat grains?

I want to see one.
