Critical Thinking Course

I need some help on a big assignment due tomorrow in my History Critical thinking class. I have to define 8 terms + define “Critical Thinking” and “Inferred Justification/Motivated Reasoning.” So a total of 10 terms. After I give the definition of each I have to give two specific examples to the topic of the course from the media ( ex newspaper, film, speeches, books, etc) Then I must explain the significance of each and how it pertains to the term and definition. Also, of course, I must include a citation. So if you can help me out or give me an example please include a source.

So the ten:

  1. Critical Thinking
  2. Inferred Justification/Motivated reasoning
  3. Ad Hominem
  4. Straw person
  5. Equivocation
  6. Obfuscation
  7. Non-sequitor
  8. False Dilemma
  9. Red Herring
  10. Slippery Slope
  11. Glittering Generality
  12. Wishful thinking
  13. Oversimplification

Since its due tomorrow, how stressed out are you right now?

I hate you.

You actually have to chance to get a bang for your buck, i.e learn something vitally important and you do not do your homework.

Anyhow, turn to PWI and look at the threads.

You should be done in one hour.

With the exception of No.1 you could just take any given Obama speech.

Just provide your teacher with a link to PWI. You’ll find plenty of examples of numbers 2-13 and a decided lack of number 1 in there. Numbers 2-6 are running rampant at any given moment.

Since when did HH teach History?

Not too stressed. Got a few done just looking for examples.

And actually, I’ve gotten 1 example from an Obama speech and two from Bush jr. Anybody have some examples?

Legitimate examples*

I probably should have posted in there. And I am just looking for some more examples.

This qualifies as a “big” assignment?

Considering there’s only a total amount of 200 points worth of work and tests in this class and this single assignment is 50, I’d say so.

I know what fallacies are and what they mean, I was just looking for political examples of each. And asking if you all knew any.

What a rough teacher that assigns you a project worth 1/4 of your grade and gives you one day to do it.

If you hop over to PWI, there are examples of all of the above in spades…
