Crimes Against Nutrition

Thanks! I’ve been on the fence about getting one but it seems too convenient not to

I thought they were the dumbest thing in the world when I was first exposed to it. “If I want a steak, I want a steak NOW: not in 2 hours”. But I’ve really grown to appreciate how awesome they are. It’s like a smoker you never need to babysit. You set the temp, and get your food when you’re ready. And it makes cooking easier rather than more complicated, because now all I have to do is sear the sides for a minute, or throw it in the smoker long enough to take on some smoke.

Only issue is if I have multiple doneness preferences. I’ve made peace with accepting medium rare rather than rare to keep peace in the house, but I’m contemplating just picking up a second one to have some options.

Anytime I grill or smoke steaks, there is one doneness medium rare to medium haha

I’ll have to pick one up. It seems like the more versatile and superior slow cooker for meats

I slow cook it. 6-7 breasts in the slow cooker. Send 5 hours with some stock in water and forget.

Excellent shredded chicken erry time. Reliable, juicey. Easy.

I’ve done that a lot. But sometimes I want a hunk of chicken. Lol. I think I’m just going to have to stick to breast in the Crock-Pot and thighs in the air fryer. Crock-Pot makes meal prep pretty easy too.

Broiler. It takes a little tweaking to get it in the right heat zone and time, but its awesome. As juicy and tender as it can be.

I shim up the broiler pan with a pizza stone (just happens to work out. I’ve used a few others to get it “right”) and about 7 min. On first side, 6 on the other. Every make/model is a little different though.

Hmmmm, well my oven is from 1964. I’ll have to see what will work there.

These new ones are shiny but queefy.

It’s awesome. It even has the old clock that the numbers flip. Kind of a pain in the ass on time change though. Gotta flip through 11 hours in the fall. Lol.

 That was manually digital!

In '64 that was pretty damn fancy.

I had a kitchen in my first place that was done in enamel Johnstown Kitchens (i think) that you could shelter down in, in the event of a nuclear strike.

Edit: Youngstown Cabinets.

Similar to these, different arrangement.

We had those in the house I grew up in. I can actually hear the sound of the cabinet clips and feel the pop when they opened and closed!

They do have that unique feel. You know it when you feel it. Tough as hell too. I had the lower set up- the sink/countertop cabinets, the single door and the double but arranged differently. Separated into islands.

Private chef technique. Sear one side, flip, put a lid on the pan to trap steam then cook to 170/180f.

Speaking of Tuna fish. An honest to goodness crime. :sad_but_relieved_face: All these, and yes there are layers of them in this box, are 2-4 years past the use by dates. Where the hell have they been for 4 years that somebody couldn’t have eaten them before now. Why would you donate these to a food pantry that far out of date? It’s not like we can distribute it.

Ahh. Someone was cleaning out their pantry and didn’t want to throw the food away. My dad is a food hoarder. He has food in his pantry that expired in 2015. About a year ago I cleaned out his upstairs pantry and found this

Wow! That’s pretty crazy! 1988. If it would have been in the freezer, I would still use it.
I bet it tastes like nostalgia!

I have some things that are probably getting close on dates but dang.

Canned tuna fish isn’t my favourite. But instead of mayonnaise, I add grainy mustard and diced onion, or jerk sauce or teriyaki sauce and five spice, or some Thai red curry paste. That makes it palatable.

Salmon sushi is as good as it gets in Canada. If you go to Japan, the fatty tuna sushi is the best thing ever. Very few things taste as good as o-tori.

Chicken thighs are both tastier than breast and harder to dry out. Rotisserie chicken with gravy is one if the best quickie meals.

Me still wondering why people are saying “tuna fish”…
