Creatine During Football Season?

I started taking Creatine monohydrate this summer in preparation for my Freshman year of college football. I would take 5 grams at breakfast and 5 grams PWO.

I experienced significant gains in both size and strength. I’ve heard that Creatine increases the probability of you cramping up, so it shouldn’t be taken during a sports season. However, I have also read about studies that refute that claim.

So, should I continue to supplement with Creatine during the season or should I cycle off and wait until off season workouts?

Have you not been doing football related things along with working out all summer? Have you had a cramp yet? Should be able to answer your own question because some people might get cramps while others do not.

take it years round but as always be SURE top stay hydrated and get your electrolytes

If you’re cramping up with creatine it simply means you aren’t hydrated enough.

Suck back a liter or water right now, and consider mixing in some gatorade if you’re going to be sweating for long periods of time.

Thanks for the input.
Outrage, I have been conditioning and doing football drills all summer and have not experienced any cramping so I should be alright.
Also, do you think taking Creatine during the season will be beneficial in terms of muscle recovery and stamina?

My son plays football and I recommend he drops it for the season…

You may be fully hydrated prior to the workouts but during the workouts most coaches will restrict water as a motivation or punishment…

Not worth the risk, so drop it till you have full control of your intake of water…
