I saw this video just now
…
I don’t like this… People are finally standing up, although there is unfortunately a tiny portion of the Neo Nazi crowd that also attends these events. There were QR codes in Melbourne plastered all over the place (I wasn’t there, just looking at pics people have posted including the lockdownskepticism subthreddit) of which when accessed led to a BS conspiracy article detailing how Jews, not Al Qaeda, commited 9/11.
I’m not unhappy about the notion of people standing up against what I perceive to be flat out tyranny… I’m upset over the media censorship regarding numbers, outcomes… I’m upset our government, drunk on, power continually doubles down on excess policing, autocratic policy etc.
These protests could have been peaceful… Now people are turning out in larger and larger crowds, the protests are becoming violent… How long till a REALLY destructive, violent clash unfolds?
The narrative all protestors are violent, fascist anti vaxxers is false… My afternoon news told of a couple hundred protestors… Foreign sources I later read of detailed 4000+, videos backed that up
Unfortunately the conspiracy/anti vax crowd that does show up to these events (minority) do tarnish the reps of everyone attending. I’m talking of the “vaccines cause autism” type anti vaxxers…
Andrews government was in talks of reducing 5km radiuses to 1k, only allowing outdoor exercise for 20 minutes… Flat out locking everyone from hotspots in their home less they test negative
Otherwise going full China… At what cost are we willing to pursue covid zero? How does this stupid cunt not realise “covid” isn’t an absolute deal-breaker with a 30% CFR… FUCK! You’d think we were dealing with MERS given how ridiculous these restrictions touted are.
But no, a CFR below 1%, closer to 0.005% for someone my age
Also… I’m vaccinated… Why am I not exempt from restrictions. Most of the elderly are now vaccinated… More than half of the Australian population is partially protected. At this point in our rollout Europe was either starting to open up… Or they introduced vaccine exemptions.
Hypothetically I should be able to protest, fully vaccinated and in an outdoor environment.
I sure as hell wouldn’t risk it now though. I’m saving up as much money as possible… I’m probably going to leave next year
Whether I come back depends on how life overseas treats me. In the meanwhile I’m acquiring the qualifications to be able to work in a few trades. I’m doing what I can to help my prospects when I get out for the time-being
I don’t really want to live in a country where this level of government over reach is considered acceptable. I can’t identify with this culture at all anymore… Many want peaceful protestors imprisoned, some are talking of how China is the perfect model for the restrictions that ought to be put in place etc.
There are problems with all countries/societies… Prior to covid despite our ever increasing nanny state agenda I preferred the prospect of living here relative to say… Most US states, most European countries, nearly all countries in Asia etc. Universal healthcare, large and welcoming job market/employability prospects, decent music scene… The restrictive nature of our society was irritating, but the presence of large scale festivals (stopped attending these before covid though), beautiful rural scenery/forested areas and whatnot could give someone a break from the grips of a lifestyle otherwise steeped in excess municipal, state and federal regulation. There were drawbacks… But on the cost/benefit analysis I was content with the thought of settling down here AFTER perhaps going backpacking for a few years.
Granted I was worried about the mass surveillance bills footed through, gag orders for political activists, strip search quotas for police, courts mandating police didn’t have to hand in body cam footage over cases pertaining to police brutality, secret trials for whistleblowers etc that had become commonplace within the past four years… But plenty of this kind of shit occurs overseas within democratic countries too, including the US. The difference is, overseas this conduct would spark riots, political parties would take strain/get voted out IF the nature of said actions comes to public light… Over here? The public was either none the wiser, totally apathetic or they’d say something like “well… Don’t break the rules and you needn’t be worried”
That’s no longer the case when state/federal government’s start arresting people they don’t like, it’s a slippery slope. Despite this, Aus was relatively free, particularly if you weren’t a person of importance. Australia was deteriorating very slowly, but from a health and safety standpoint I saw it as an optimal country to live out a middle aged lifestyle. I don’t expect I’ll make it to old age… I’ve suspected this for nearly a decade now. I believe some people are naturally unlucky, and I’m an unlucky person… of course I don’t do myself any favours. Granted it’s not too late for my luck to change (if there’s a god… Give me a win DAMMIT!)
Over the past two years in particular things have seriously changed for the worse. Regardless of whether we progress back to where we were pre 2019 (which I doubt), I no longer wish to be a part of a culture that would ever accept our current narrative as acceptable. A culture that harbours no empathy to those who are currently struggling or who have struggled in the past.
Have a little empathy, for God’s sake… Put yourself in the shoes of others, is that impossible?
