Couscous for PWO Carb?

I just went to trader joe’s and got some WW Couscous. I’ve never tried it before (it looks like brown rice from the cover), but it has 7g of fiber per 1/3 cup so seems like a good PWO carb source instead of brown rice or sweet potatoes. Anybody try this? If so, any good recipes or anything to add to it?

Also, where can I find quinoa? Apparently trader joe’s only makes Quinoa bread.

TJ’s also carries Quinoa (not just the bread), at least the one by my place does.

Couscous should be fine. Quinoa might be a little better because I think it has a lower Glycemic Load.

Yeah, I mean I saw the Quinoa online, which is why i went to TJ’s but they didn’t carry it in the one in westchester so i’m sure i’ll find it at another location. I assumed quinoa did have a lower GI but would the amount its lower by have a big affect if its directly PWO?

No, it shouldn’t, and I’m starting to see people say that the necessity of the PWO insulin spike is overrated because your insulin sensitivity and nutrient partitioning are heightened in the PWO window.

I guess that would mean couscous is fine, just don’t have a ton of carbs, period, PWO. Unless you are already very lean.

Couscous is best steamed. Traditionally, this is done in a couscousiere in which the first compartment cooks the vegetables, while the upper compartment steams the couscous. Do a google on North African and couscous. I am sure there are many wonderful recipes there.

If you just want to throw something together quick, boil the couscous. You can steam or boil vegetables. Try zucchini, carrots and some chick-peas (these are some of the usual things you would find in a morrocan/tunisian couscous dish. Add some olive oil and parsley once cooked.

Come to think of it, you could PM lixy. I bet he has some good recipes for this. Lixy?

You can get quinoa at Whole foods or at Ocean State Job Lot (I know they have 3 stores where you are, NY).

I wouldn’t worry too much about the GL difference between the two since your insuline sensitivity is hightened anyway.
