minimal: I was just planning on showing off my 42 deadlifts, so I didn’t choose an angle for form critique as I didn’t realize I needed it, but I think I do from the front view, it looks like I’m barely bending my knees to me. Unfortunately I lack volunteers for 6am filming. They made an exception for my birthday…
In the crossfit ads they were snatching the bar plus a pair of 20 kg plates, then BOUNCING into the next rep. I was offended. I tried alcohol to blind myself but it was only partially successful. The I caught myself doing it the very next workout.
matty: Thanks. With the heart thing, and the one doctor telling me I’m just out of shape, I’ve become a little paranoid. It helps to get positive feedback.
It is Turkey Day up here in the great white north. Well, actually everything is yellow and red, but it will be white soon. I’m continuing the no macro weekend for today as I really don’t want to know what I am doing to myself over Thanksgiving.
Up: January I was cardio guy. Karate, calisthenics and running 10-15 hours a week, now I can’t breathe through a set of deadlifts…you are a big part of what made me think it was a good idea though. They are working for you, you’re totally sculpted. What was that from again? The Hungarian Oak Workout?
GV, OG, DB: Thanks guys, Deads felt fine, but I just thought they looked off. I need to start videoing stuff. I’m going by feel and memory where my form is off mostly so I have been trying to fix what I can feel first, but I think I need some visuals…
PM Workout:
FS: 6x120, 6 s pause at the bottom. Trying to stretch and nail the groove. Forearm whining a bit. Why would an 85 year old women have 6 wooden dressers and 2 desks??? My oldest son is off in Milwaukee for a fencing tournament, so I was stuck lugging mostly myself. My brother should be around to help finish up next weekend, but the boy is off at another tournament…
C&J: 3x120, 3x140, figured out part of the problem, my grip is too close, hands are in the way, 3x160, 3x190, bar is flying up but forearm is killing me on the catch, stopping there. Just overstretching the forearm a bit, need to work it into position. I need to remember not to rush.
Snatch: 9x1x140 Need a heavier practice weight, I’m waiting around at the bottom for the bar to fall down and getting bored. See what I get up to next session, then work on a practice weight of 90% of 3RM instead of 80%.
Speaking of which, when you say 9x1x140, are you doing 1 rep then taking a rest or just taking a few seconds to reset?
I tried fencing, but found it a bit too prissy with too many rules. I just wanted to stab & slash, no one teaches with a wooden waster around these parts, heck they teach with a foil and not even a sabre. But its great for the buns and to be able to move with grace and lightening speed. My hand eye coordination is pretty crap too.
Minimal: When I list is like that, I set the bar down, step away, and do the walk up and everything. I keep the breaks really short when I’m doing singles, but I need to take longer for the heart rate to get back down when I do higher reps. You know like 3-5.
FISCHER: Clean & Press = genius. Basically my hr is 220 and erratic about 10 minutes into a treadmill cardiac stress test, and I’m hitting nitro at about 4 blocks walking in the city at what used to be a relaxed pace. It is cold enough my asthma does act up when I sprint outside now, and has been cold in the morning for a while so I was wanting a sprint equivalent. No ischemia on my angiogram, but they aren’t sure what is going on. C&P should do to replace sprints, as I am basically walking 2-3 mph on the treadmill for 10-15 minutes until my heart rate gets over 180.
My son does sabre, so he gets to cut and thrust. Still too many rules I don’t understand…he’s gotten scary fast, a 6 pack and tons and tons of endurance. The anti-me in a lot of ways… He has the Brad Pitt from fight club look, only about 6’5"-6’6". He’s strutting around this morning as he was the #1 ranked Canadian at the DIV II North America Cup, and it was his first international tournament. 20th overall, but it counts as first for making the Canadian national team.
AM Workout:
DL: 5x152.5, 5x190, 5x227.5, 3x302.5, 3x322.5, 3x342.5, 5x10x190
-sets of 10 are almost more cardio than I can handle
Zercher:10x120, 10x170, 10x220, 10x220, 10x220
-WAY better ab workout than any crunch I’ve ever done
I just saw you had the MarcPro over in GV’s thread. Did you find that to help flush out the cold/flu you had? I was just reading the MarcPro web site and thought it would be an excellent recovery tool from colds and flus. Sure, you feel worse during the draining portion, but theoretically you should get better faster.
Crushed: I wasn’t smart enough to try that. In retrospect I should have at least thought to have used it on the muscle pain…it ALWAYS works on sore muscles. I used the curl up on the couch and watch anime with the kids method instead. Next time.
Joe: You finished though…I failed miserably. My daughter was counting, I couldn’t hear her on the video, but that is why I kept looking to my left at her. I kept wanting the numbers to go up faster… Next year. Anyway, she asked me if that meant I was 18 now. I said I wish it was that easy.
FISCHER: Could be. Unfortunately I have limited info from the cardiologist. I saw the 180-220-200-240 and the heart rhythm wasn’t a symmetrical saw tooth anymore but that is from me watching over his shoulder from the treadmill. He took off before I could breathe and ask questions. He sent me for an angio and when it was clear he said it must by my lungs causing a restriction in blood flow. He wouldn’t send the results to my GP either, it wasn’t just me that was snubbed.
So my GP is sending me to a pulmonologist in December.
I did the pulmonologist thing last year, but that one said it was actually my thyroid slowing me down and I should be fine once it was stabilized. I was actually fine for a few months once my TSH was normal, but now I am way worse now. I was having trouble if tried to play indoor soccer or run for over half an hour then, but didn’t have any trouble doing 3-4 hours of karate as it has more stops and starts. When my TSH was 18.5 I had no trouble doing cardio, it was the only way to keep warm.
Basically I need to prove my lungs are OK before the cardiologist will see me again, so I’m doing what I can. There is a certain tendency for doctors up here to try and prove you wrong if you try and make a suggestion.
Up: Thanks. With your food postings you have to be doing something right to stay so lean.
I think they are selling a new set of cardio-pulmonary equipment including a state of the art heart at your local wally-mart for a reduced price of one kidney plus a gall bladder and could have a bogo sale going on. Hope you get the treatment you need.
GV: Not available in Canada. My commitment to socialist medicine is getting a little shakier lately. I have a doctor friend in another province who thinks she know what is up, but I’d have to fly out there to get her to check it out.
Brian: Thanks
PM Workout:
Overhead Squat 3x120#
Just for minimal Snatch 3x120, 3x140, 3x160, 3x170, 1x190 with a side of press out so decided to stop there.
This morning beat up my forearms a bit with the zerchers, decided no C&J on Zercher days until forearms are a little harder.
