I’m taking Creatine, but I would like to make sure that I take it at the proper times of the day.
Thus, please advise-On non-workout days first dose, should it be taking before breakfast, with breakfast, after? Second dose on non-workout days when to take?
On the workout days?Is it better to take Ctreatine shortly before or immediately before the workout and then shortly or immediately after? Or should it be taking basically like on the non-workout days split in two doses ? morning and afternoon. Does Creatine timing matter at all?
According to my professor (as well as a bunch of articles on this site) there’s a 15 minute period or so beginning directly after training (this is in fact a long sloping curve… its just highest directly after workouts) where the bodies’ insulin levels are primed to spike (since exercise, or rather epinephrine, has suppressed them). Of course glucose will spike them… and carbs mixed with protein I guess elicits the highest levels. It sounds like this would be the best time to ingest creatine. Anybody disagree?
There seriously is no “best time”. You can take it any time you want to. This isn’t as important as making sure you get simple carbs after training (for the record, there is actually a window of more than 15min after training…more like 45min to an hour). It is a little like obsessing over when the best time to eat a sandwhich is. When I remember to even take creatine, it is usually some time in the morning in between patients. I shoot for 10gr a day unless I simply forget. I anything, set a regular time to take it just so you don’t forget.
