Coronavirus - What Happened?

I’m starting to believe Trump is an incredibly stupid man. I already knew he was a buffoon.

He’s talking about lifting the lockdown in a week or two because of the economy. Besides the fact that Italy has shown that this doesn’t go away but gets worse, isn’t it up to individual states to decide things like lockdowns? It seems like he wants to be like Italy, disease wise, but also have it be business as usual.

One needs to go all-out for four to five weeks. If you do not go all out, you’re simply extending the misery of everyone and exponentially damaging the economy.

Because bullets don’t spread to 20 random strangers.

The coronavirus could have a mortality rate of .01%. I wish it was quantifiable for people to understand just how much the rate of death for other things could go up if this thing just goes crazy and we do nothing. How are other lives going to be saved from deadlier things with no resources.

What we have been doing is not close to all out.

No it isn’t.

Notice how Italy started seeing some leveling in the last two days only after the most draconian measures were introduced?

Everybody hold up.

One of the things that I have thought for YEARS (and still do); that Bills have all kinds of crap added to them that have nothing to do with the main focus of the Bill; were one of the most horrible things allowed by law. (It seems like everybody has even given up in the idea of the Line Item Veto).

BOTH sides do it…and I guarantee that the Republicans have added their fair share of goodies and pork to this Bill.

It’s funny that England was going to go the whole let it run its course then changed its mind while we are doing the reverse.

The United Kingdom*

You were united in that stupidity?

One of our notable traits.

Edit: That said, a lockdown was explicitly on the cards weeks ago. The plan was to try and flatten the curve using good behaviour, that has clearly failed, most notably among the orcs of London.

And if you thought the orcs of London weren’t already bad, wait until you see them without McDonalds and chicken shops for a month.

There’s a good chance we’ll have to have armed guards to stop people raiding Nando’s.

The rate of growth of the virus in Italy has slowed down for the second day in a row. Finally good news!

Edit: apparently @loppar beat me to it by a long stretch haha

Don’t feel bad, we often lose out to his promptness.

I’m with you, @samul!

The same news is coming out of “Ground Zero” in China. (Even though we always have to be a little careful about their reports).

Let’s all keep our fingers crossed!

Good news indeed man.

I’d like to see them separate some stuff. Put the big business stuff aside for a second and focus on small businesses and individuals. That should be priority one.

Then figure out the best way to give billions to big businesses with enough loopholes to make sure the richest people in those businesses are taken care of handsomely so they can buy a shit ton of stocks at reduced prices. I kid (but really)

The only reason everyone insists on these massive things is so everyone can hide their shit in it.

I just heard a hilarious story from a former colleague who contracted the virus, the only problem is that it’s one of those “stranger than fiction” stories that no one would believe.

He tested positive, almost died in an earthquake and was nearly fired upon by the police - all in the span of roughly 45 minutes.

The earthquake that happened in Croatia?
