Coronavirus - What Happened?

It’s squirrel pelts or nothing for my ass

Two observations:

  1. As I watch the “Families First Coronavirus Response Act” wind it’s way through the Legislative process; It’s amazing how hard times and a pandemic can turn so many politicians and everyday people into “socialist”. Seems things are a little different when hard times hit home.

  2. Trump should be on his knees that there is an old, experienced, hard-nosed, bitch of a politician like Nancy Pelosi who knows how to craft and negotiate things like the “Families First Coronavirus Response Act” or his “interim” administration would be up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Ask Steve Mnuchin.

Isn’t it also the fact that England sees itself as exceptional and has a default mode that makes it choose the opposite of what they choose on the Continent? Italy uses VAR in the best way possible yet the EPL just had to do it differently because it’s the EPL.

And an election is on the horizon.

A bit of a tangent, but: I kinda wish squirrel pellets were little dry pellets you throw in water then Poof! A squirrel pops out.

I’d throw handfuls into the pool at kids birthdays.

In the US something can only be socialist if it is spending done by the other side.

Spending by your side: “Necessary, giving people relief, keeping us free, etc.”

Spending by the other side: “Socialist, hand outs, giving money to takers, we can’t afford this, etc.”

Now you will always be able to easily determine what’s socialist in America.

I think this has really exposed the incompetence of our politicians. They’ve known about this virus for months. They saw what happened in China and then Italy. They had no plan in place and are taking things, in their own words, in a step by step manner. The mayor of nyc is saying they might order shelter in place. Might? We all know it will happen so why not say it will happen so people can prepare?

They closed school for two weeks where I live and adopted a wait and see attitude. Again, it’s obvious that it will extend much more than two weeks.

They should have known the impact on businesses and employment and already had plans in place to take care of people and businesses.

And Rand Paul is a piece of shit who probably deserved to get his ass kicked by his neighbor.

Apparently South Korea took a different approach and it’s working:

And I know @H_factor is going to say something, so I will let you know ahead of time that I never even heard about this until this morning. Is it true? Can South Korea be trusted to provide accurate info? I don’t know, I just read one article.

Strangest coincidence ever:

The fictional novel tells the story of a Chinese military lab that creates a new virus to potentially use as a biological weapon during wartime. The lab is ironically located in Wuhan, China and the made-up virus is called Wuhan-400.

That article talks about authoritarianism in the West then admits that Korea has a nanny state mentality. It also admits that they closed museums and schools and banned mass gatherings.

Why would it be ironically located in Wuhan when there is indeed a virology research center there? It would be like writing a novel in which someone got a nuclear weapon from some military base in a former Soviet nation.

Yes, but apparently they didn’t shut down nearly everything as they are doing here and also in South Korea they tested a lot of people, which isn’t happening here. Plus the fact that people already wear masks and they are readily available makes a difference too.

There are virology research centers in many places and the only place where a global outbreak started is Wuhan.

It’s tough to compare when they have taken numerous actions that we haven’t. Plus we are like 6.5 times the size of them population wise.

If we had acted as they had at the beginning it would be more comparable to wonder if we would have similar results. We started behind the 8 ball. And as pointed out they have already banned mass gatherings and other things. I would be curious to know of the places they have open how many are regularly being attended and by how many people. Closing things really doesn’t matter if people aren’t going or if they are in tiny numbers limiting potential exposure. According to the article it seems like people there are doing this on their own.

They have universal healthcare and I believe one of the best rated health outcomes system in the world as well.

The comparison isn’t exactly apples to apples. And again they are going through economic pains just like everyone else. People there aren’t going to places according to the article. I wouldn’t even be surprised if that as of 5 days ago we weren’t attending all those places they have “open” in significantly higher numbers than them.

Well, we can’t test like Korea because we don’t have the tests so that ship has sailed. Also, as you said, they ALREADY, wore masks. We can’t go back in time. And let’s not forget geographical differences.

Writers do research. Wuhan is the most advanced lab in China so if you wanted the virus to originate in China, that would be the place.

The subtext, and poorly disguised at that is “Look at the stupid western hypocrites. They’re dumb and disorganized! Now look at Eastern authoritarianism! We’re smart and efficient!”.

So fuck them.

We Freedom Hard, So they don’t have toooooo…:joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:

Yeah they vaccinate at a much higher rate than we do as well. I’ll be damned if we let all the doctors in this country force us to make healthy choices!

When you vaccinate the terrorists win.

It had to be done step-by-step. Even doing it that way caused panic buying, fights at grocery stores, and shortages. Can you imagine the chaos if the government said starting tomorrow we are enforcing a mandatory quarantine for X amount of days?

One observation I have made in my state MN (and I think this is also in other states) is that all mass gatherings are shut down except religious services. Some of the larger churches in my area are 1000+ people in a single room (large percent of senior citizens too).

I guess I am just frustrated that it seems the government is listening to the best advice from scientists, but have an exception for religion. I doesn’t make sense.

That’s fucking stupid.

If you tell people what to expect in advance as well as explain what it means, then you can avoid panic. If you tell people that in 24 hours there will be shelter in place or quarantine or lockdown, then of course they will panic. If you tell them that at some point there will be a lockdown but explain that it means they can still go out for groceries or medicine or to even exercise, then when it happens people won’t panic. Certainty is how you avoid panic. When a government looks like it’s making stuff up as it goes along, then people worry.
