The fake RCT avoidance argument by snake oil peddlers usually falls in the following interval:
“There’s no time for RCTs! People are dying! RCT is the equivalent of a video recording of a crime and the evil scientists want us to meet an impossibly high standard, delay the cure at a time when we have overwhelming evidence that our “protocol” / “kit” (sounds medical-y, doesn’t it?) works and saves lives!”
This lower boundary RCT evasion is for the dumbest cult members, usually served in the podcast format.
For those the least dumb (but still dumb) on the upper boundary who want something more science-y that has an appearance of an actual research paper, they usually say that
“despite not having done a RCT, the very large sample allows adjusting for confounding factors, and there’s a clear benefit of taking (IVM/HCQ/Vitamin D/snake oil of your choosing) that is plainly visible for the group that is most at-risk”
Wow. Doesn’t this sound like a conclusion actual scientists would make? Well, no. It is fake science language used to impress fools.

Are you sure about this? It does not seem to square with the facts. China has prospered over the past year and their influence has grown.
I am not proclaiming they did do it on purpose, but I think it’s foolish to rule it out. Or any thing in between. We are not going to know anything for certain because the information pipeline is shutdown.
Who said anything about training? Of course training matters, but most people don’t need to go to college to do what they end up doing to be gainfully employed in their professions. I sure didn’t need my degree to open doors.
I am not saying college is useless. If you have a passion and want to pursue a study where college is necessary, by all means go. Most people are taking out 10s of thousands of dollars in loans to get a degree they will never use.
We were sold a bill of goods. Most people can learn a skill or a trade without university. And without having to suffer the indoctrination and humiliations of the pervasive cult of wokism that has stunk up a huge number of college campuses. But yeah, if you are passionate about gender studies or marxism, college is the place. And hey, we need collage football and the schools need to make hundreds of millions of dollars to bring us that sport. So we certainly should prop up these institutions for that reason alone.

Although I have published actual papers, co-authored a book about the (eye wateringly boring) topic of my PhD and I pay my bills by being an expert in my very obscure yet important engineering field. And most importantly, I know what RCTs are.

No, no looppar is the science here. I will kindly ignore him, because he is not arguing anything at all. He does not even want to listen to the source or my arguments. He is like, oh no you are not educated, I am the science.
If he knew anything about science, he would know that science is debatable. I have studied mostly debatable topics. For example my bachelor’s work was on measuring service quality in hospitality. You cant really measure such a thing. It all perception and arguing and debates. You bring on the table different authors and discussions on the topic when writing on such topics and you try to draw your own conclusions based on the literature review and the study you have done interviewing different managers or people on the field. I had a questionnaire send to different managers, so in the end I presented my results, the debate and drawer a conclusion. It was not like, I am the science and I am right. The conclusion was that the topic was debatable, there are a lot of authors arguing on it, here is what I found they are matching as valuable measurements, here is what I found from people working on the field.
Even on topics like body building, where we know a lot regarding the body and functionality of the exercises, we can not draw concrete solutions. You cant say do 3 sets of 8 reps, that is optimal. Or train to failure? How do you measure failure, how different people perceive failure.
But mr. Science here comes and say the science is set for Covid a virus that is not even 2 years old. Although science has changed 100 times on different Covid topics already and is developing on a daily basis. Even the ducking virus is developing montly. The dude is just a propagandist living in a fascistic bubble.
I was going to surprise him and say Trump is a ducking piece of incompetent shut handling the virus. He could have done so much more and his operation Wrap speed has brough such much shut to this world. But oh boy oh boy. Mr. Science would not engage in a debate.
