Coronavirus - What Happened?

I’m in Dublin and we’ve been in the most stringent lockdowns in Europe since December, with no end in sight.

The Irish vaccine roll out has been dogshit too, so fun times ahead. I may be able to get back in a gym before my wedding. I’ve had to make do with a 70lb kettlebell and a chin up bar.

Sad times mate, sorry to hear. I suppose one positive of pretending we fixed everything stateside is that pretty much everything is open in many places (with mask mandates and limits).

Recommend purchasing a band set from Elitefts, they’re great home workout choices and you can add them to rows, pushups or whatever for some serious tension. You could make a cable pulldown station by doubling a band over the chinup bar, or strap it to the KB for some extra tension on rows. Heavy bands are good for good mornings and band presses.

Also the Spud Inc. lat pulley system is awesome. $200 for a pulley system (on elitefts site) you can rig most anywhere with some ingenuity. Does require some plate though. However Rogue had some iron plates in stock as of yesterday.

I’ve bought an 80lb bell and I actually think my shoulders have grown during this lockdown with all the pressing I’ve been doing.

Way I figure it, if I can keep adding more reps to the AMRAP sets on goblet squats, 1h rows and presses/push presses, then I can’t be going backwards at least.

Is it ideal? No. But I can do a set of 200 swings now, so I’m probably fitter than I’ve been in years :joy:

The frustrating thing was that I was setting some really good (for me) rep PR’s on my squat and deadlift before all this kicked off, now it may be another 8 months (if I’m lucky) before I’m back where I was.

I wasn’t King Kong or anything, but 455 for 6 conventional deadlift one week and then next week doing push ups because the gym was shut was quite a shock to the system.

Edit: thank Christ for Dan John.

Edit the second: if the tens of thousands of swings haven’t helped out my abs and lower back, I’m suing the Russians…once I diet to a low enough weight to potentially see my abs that is…

Dan John is a worldwide treasure. End of story.

You sure? I think that could potentially be hazardous to your health…

On another note I think KBs are some of the greatest tools you can have for training in a cramped environment. But I love my bands - they allow a lot of versatility for isolation moves that could be awkward with KBs.

That’s for sure. I’ve got some for rows and such, I will probably invest in some heavier duty ones if this crap rolls on much longer.

Pavel promised me! Maybe I’ll chuck in some sit ups, just to avoid the polonium laced tea. It’s the prudent option, I think.

Have you tried the depravity that is the high rep KB goblet squat with a band? I found that even with a lighter band the increased resistance at the top really sets your quads and lower back on fire.

If someone is willing to start an official Dan John cult with brain washing and incantations, I’m in.

Band pull throughs are phenomenal. I usually do a high rep set (100 reps) after finishing my KB hinge movements.

I have also been exercising at home.

I have an apartment right now that has a long main section, and I can clear a path straight through from one end to the other.

What I did yesterday was 3 warmup rounds, 3 minutes on 1 minute between, of first shuffling around in stance and then the last 2 I shadowboxed.

then I did about 5 or 6 (i lost count) rounds on my Muay Thai bag wedged into one corner of boxing. My right wrist flexor in the forearm is strained, and I had been recently just throwing straights with my left and mixing it up with kicks. I have a brace for the injury and yesterday I wrapped the right so as to minimize potential flexion. I was tentative because I was worried about reaggravating it, and that is probably why I actually did. I still continued after i did so and didn’t make it worse than that.

After the boxing I used the bag for weighted carries. Pick it up onto my right shoulder, walk about 20’ to the other end of my apartment, walk back and put it down. 90 seconds between sets and I did 6 carries. The bag is 125lbs.

Then I used a hand grip exercisor, 3 sets each side, 90 seconds between sets timing each side separately of whatever I could squeeze out.

Overall about a one hour session.

Fat shaming!

That is an utterly disgusting concept, and I must try it.

Get ready lol. It sounds easier than it is by a long shot. May be just me, but no matter how much you can squat with a bar, a couple sets of those light things up. I feel it very differently from banded barbell squats.

Absolutely. It’s almost like a completely different move from cable pull throughs, not as much stretch but great hip lockout work. When the lockdown ends try attaching a band on top of the cable stack for those.

Went back and read this and the other coronavirus thread from the beginning. Just skimmed by month, absolutely absurd. Very entertaining.

10/10, would recommend lol

If I remember correctly a lot of the earlier posts were driven by bewilderment.

Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland of the Federal Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just tabled a budget, 2 years after the last one. Not surprisingly, things have been in enough turmoil that one could excuse last time around.

I wonder if any of you Americans might read this and compare the spending mood of our government to Biden’s idea of spending Stateside.

One thing that worries me worldwide is will international lenders sort of foreclose on the whole planet by the time Covid-19 is tamed, or sooner? I don’t suppose they will hire a private military and set up a new world order dictatorship. What I mean is might they just see the gravity of this and upcoming pandemic threats and just forgive a huge chunk of money? Or at least offer very low servicing costs?

Definitely think that article is a fair snapshot

You guys should check out Josh Rogins appearance and Joe rogan podcast. It is on spotify now which kind of sucks but, it is quite interesting. Sheds some light on the pandemic and how it started.

I was originally going to post this in the Stupid thread, but the case was made that this might be a lesser of evils thing to do. The same church story in that thread got more charges associated with them, but they are engaging in an indoor, close proximity event.

Golfers tend to be spread out a lot, and are usually outdoors, as this course is.

Interesting. Golf courses were one of the first things to open here in washington. They were shutdown for like 1month when covid kicked off, but it’s about as safe an activity as you can do so they haven’t been in danger of closing since, even when cases rose and draconian restrictions rolled back out. Hell, GCs opened months before public playgrounds did here.

Is it b/c the golf clubs were holding indoor events and or had indoor ammeneties open to members?
