No, you’re talking about binding precedents from higher courts. For example, if the Supreme Court were to make a ruling, then all lower courts in every state will have to abide by it.
While @Aragorn has already mentioned the lack of similarities, even if precedents with sufficient similarity exist from courts of the same level, in different states these are only useful as persuasive arguments which is up to the individual judges’ discretion on how much weight to put on them.
How presidential! What a fine, noble leader of the United States. Remember when he caught covid-19 and had to be administered experimental antibodies, put on oxygen… twice and had corticosteroids administered to him? Then he got out and said “covid-19 is nothing” and parroted everyone ought to have access to the experimental treatment treatment he received? Bitch please, some diabetics in the USA can’t even access insulin…
Primarily the more extreme sects of the Hasidic/Haredi community. There is an anti-lockdown sentiment/anti-restriction sentiment going on amongst some of the most ‘radical’ sects (covering a minority of Jews).
I do… I know multiple people who have been severely affected (and one who died). “I don’t know any dead people” is a weak ass argument to downplay this virus
I can’t wrap my mind around the notion of someone saying they know no one. Unless they are living in a area of oddly low infection rate per capita or living under a rock… in the small county of 26000 i live in, over 1500 have been confirmed positive since March. Top of my head I could count off at least 30 indviduals between my wife’s and my work place.
I live in Australia. I can attest I legitimately don’t personally know of any Australians who have caught it/had serious complications.
The extended family members of mine who have caught it reside overseas. I also know numerous Americans who have caught it and been relatively asymptomatic and/or only mildly ill.
As a blanket statement of sorts, it’s been odd too see how cavalier the attitudes within the generalised American populace has been regarding covid-19. Compare the anti-lockdown sentiment and general ignorance/anti-science rhetoric with attitudes here wherein we freak the fuck out over one case.
Should also be noted the extended family member of mine who DIED from covid-19 wasn’t an unhealthy/immunocomprimised individual. This was a relatively healthy individual in their 50s. Another (who had comorbidties, in his/her 60’s) was placed on oxygen and now has a form of “long-covid” . one family member in his/her teens was short of breath, another in his/her 20’s described it as “the worst flu you’ve ever had x10”
I was fucking told my family has weak genetics earlier on here because I’ve had family members who fell ill and weren’t elderly… this isn’t the flu… not even close
I’m not in the US, but a woman who attended Pilates classes (yes, I know) with my wife died a couple of days ago. Mid thirties, no comorbidities.
Around a month ago she was pressured into attending a superspreader family gathering by her very religious family that doesn’t (or didn’t?) believe in Covid and picked it up there.
She even exchanged texts with my wife after having tested positive, telling how it’s such a drag staying at home and that she’ll go through her collection of corny romance novels.
Apparently, after a week it went from double pneumonia to hospitalization with supplemental oxygen followed by a stint at a ventilator. And then a couple of days ago, a short obituary on Facebook suddenly appeared.
Lots of crying emojis and “What happened?” in the comments, followed by an occasional incel sociopath asking whether she “died from covid or with covid”. Again, these were comments about someone’s obituary.
Yeah, I think he’s jumped the shark a few times now and isn’t all there mentally but that’s no reason to wish him ill. He doesn’t look to be in the best health so I really hope he gets good quick treatment and recovery.
I don’t wish Giuliani a hard time with this disease, but, fuck him! He knows he was exposed to two people within the last couple of weeks who have been diagnosed with COVID (his son and Boris Epshteyn). Knowing that he was exposed, instead of self quarantining he’s been in closed door meetings with people, maskless, hugging and shaking hands with supporters.
Yeah I haven’t kept up on any of the circumstances surrounding it. Didn’t even know he had it til Z posted. But I really hope he hasn’t been that stupid… I would have thought his son would be isolated anyway
I don’t wish him ill. But, he is one of the main mouthpieces for a borderline treasonous movement against our election, and separately has downplayed and minimized the virus for political gain at the expense of public safety. His recent history has overshadowed any good he did decades ago for me. I don’t see this as any great tragedy at all.
No, again, like I explained in the other thread, these only function as persuasive arguments, and for them to be applied, they must be of sufficient similarity to the specific case. They are not binding, hence they do not “function greatly” when it comes to application of common law in the relevant jurisdiction wrt to the specific case at hand.
EDIT:
Wait, it was this same fucking thread and I just replied twice to the same post lol. Never mind. Too many threads with the same topics being argued. Can’t keep up. Sorry.
