The Canadian government site for COVID benefits gives you a different day of the week to log in depending on which month you are born to prevent that. Last I heard there were over 8 million people who applied, out of a population of 38 million.
See, thatâs something smart I would never see our government even thinking of
Yeah, these are the simple things I find try to find humor in.
According to one of my previous tech contractors(systems management and similar stuff) living in Luxembourg theyâre âabnormally busyâ during this period so the tech industry should be having a good time now. Couldnât engage his services or even 3rd party contractors through him for an upcoming project.
And this dude isnât cheap at all. Heâs a phd with 20 years of experience. People are still willing to pay his prices for simple projects they can outsource to India.
One more thing thatâs telling of the kind of people that work for our government (or at least how seriously they take their job) is that someone bothered to look at the source code of the website I was mentioning (just like anybody can do on any webpage by pressing ctrl+U) and apparently whoever coded it used names like âgoofyâ (the Disney character) to call variables.
(Pippo = goofy)
Weâre in good handsâŠ
Lol I picked up a bit of this coding jargon in my last project. What does the name of the function mean?
Ok wait, so I think heâs saying English is the only goofy language or youâre selecting a âgoofyâ option if you select English?
Yeah, there are small monthly payouts for no-incorporated business owners(plus the subsidies for employees) and freelancers as well but thatâs about it.
Pippo is the Italian name for the Disney character Goofy. The name Goofy, in Italian, sounds like gufi which means owls.
Thanks. What does the Cambial lingua and slingua mean?
Cambia lingua means change language. Slingua is just the word language with an added s at the beginning. Not sure what that means as I havenât looked into the code (my guess would be theyâre trying to shorten âselected lanuageâ).
It has nothing to do with English though. Theyâre not making fun of it. The point is that a good programmer always uses meaningful names for the variables for a whole host of reasons, including making code more readable for other programmers.
In the context of what that code does (it takes you to a new URL which is the same page in a different language), a meaningful name for that variable could have been new_window_location or url_with_new_language, but our top notch programmers here decided to call it Goofy.
Hahaha ok. I know my guys would write really funny remarks in the comments in their code but they wouldnât fuck around with the main code. Told me it was also for scalability and for future developers to continue the project.
EDIT:
I seriously donât get how you guys can lean and apply this shit with all the different languages, frameworks, cloud stuff and APIs and all. Even the most basic stuff is so damn complex to me but I had to learn some of it along with the jargon to communicate with clients.
I find all of this so addicting. It gives me a high that little else can when I get something to work, or when I manage to build something like an application from scratch.
The answer is that first of all, you donât truly ever even come close to learning all of this. There is just so much stuff. The second thing is that, once you have a good base and understanding of the theory, as well as some experience handling code, learning new stuff is easier.
Everything connects in a way you understand better and better with time. Thatâs the beauty of it, for me at least.
Genuine question (for those who do not live alone.)
Do you wear a mask in your own home?
If not, would you do it if mandated or recommended?
Would you accept monitoring/checking of this if it was mandatory (ie. Police knocking on your door?)
Yes.
Of course. I even let the IRS know when I cheat on my taxes.
You never heard about this:
-
No.

Iâd have no choice if youâre talkin about law enforcement getting involved. Immigration officials made my wife wear a gps monitering tag for 1 week without taking it off when she returned from China and had to spend a week on home quarantine even AFTER she tested negative 5 days into quarantine.
Even gave us some large gps device to be plugged in one of the electrical sockets for the tag to be extremely accurate within a certain limited range or something. They visited us once to check up on her and made her take pictures of her surroundings by phone several times during the week. They donât fuck around with this shit over here.
No, no and no.
If any of that takes place this will no longer be America.
That already happened when we gave women the right to vote.
COVID cultural revolution:
"One would think that the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada would use the latest instalment of her annual report, released on Wednesday, to offer national guidance on the big questions Canadians are asking both each other and the experts about where weâre headed with COVID-19.
Alas, the 86 page report âFrom risk to resilience: An equity approach to COVID-19â does no such thing. Then again, the subtitle is a dead giveaway that the focus is all about seeing the pandemic through the lens of academic progressivism.
There are sections on ableism, ageism, intersectionality and, of course, a fixation on race. There is handwringing over the âmultiple intersection drivers of stigma and discrimination.â
There is rhapsodizing over how the âstructural determinants of health⊠drive health inequities because they shape the ways that power, money, and resources are distributed in society which provide individuals with greater or lesser ability to have control over their healthâ
The solution to these woes? No less than creating ânew ways of living and workingâ. Tam and her colleagues propose stable housing, environmental sustainability, reducing stigma and discrimination as well as a complete overhaul of the Canadian agricultural sector as the path forward.
Remember how good it worked out when Mao did it?
