I meant more along the lines of we have people that do this during every crisis because we are addicted to the idea of profit and materialism. Not that we are the only people in the world like that. And zero chance this is the only fuck doing things like this in this country. Amazon shut multiple people down. Pointing that out isnāt even close to bigoted itās simply a fact. My comment was out of frustration.
But yes most people on the whole arenāt horrific assholes who would do something like this. But we do have entire industries designed to separate poor and uneducated people from their money. Typical American behavior was a poor word choice. We always have people who do this type of shit was my point.
Spreading contagion to own the libs.
Itās that damn moonshine baby. Kills EVERYTHING
What on Earth are the Irish going to do now??
Yeah that doesnāt make much sense. People arenāt intentionally hurting working people of the country by avoiding these places. They are helping them. A few weeks of no work is going to be vastly better for all than multiple months if this gets spread like wildfire.
The same thing weāve done during every previous crisis, drink at home and fornicate.
Ah, the two great pastimes!
Wait. You donāt read Ulysses?
Iām a Swift man, personally.
Whatās funny is that I, for some reason, read some Yeats today.
Question, guys.
The āoddā place in all of this is Russia.
Are we to believe that Russia has not been affected?
(Serious question).
You mean the number based on their size? They have confirmed cases already there.
Shitā¦Will be interesting to see how many places follow this advice. A lot of Kansas schools are closed right now until around April 1 range. Will be curious to see if these places extend. Itās not a statewide measure though as I know some schools are planning on having kids tomorrow at this time.
They did what Trump unsuccessfully tried to emulate - they closed down international air travel to non-white countries early January and refused to use the WHO test (like the CDC did at first) to keep the numbers artificially low. You cannot report new cases if your test cannot identify them.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that cases are much higher, although Putin is invest heavily in makeshift medical facilities. Not because heās trying to save lives but because it can be a threat to his regime, much like what is currently happening in Iran.
Expecting governments like that to accurately report is absurd. The number of cases is likely far far higher than they are saying. But right now unfortunately you could say that for everywhere. Difference is they will intentionally deceive even if they had testing for all.
You guys have discussed the economics of this alreadyā¦and much of what you discussed seem to be coming true.
It appears (and I am no expert on this by any means) is that Trumpā¦and it seems the Fedā¦exhausted many tools they had to at least slow the fall to recession? (Early tax cuts, rate cuts, etc.)? Wall Street and the markets seem to not respond too well simply to politics, platitudes and downright liesā¦but to reality.
Please discuss. As it seems we are heading toward recession, I am still learning.
Iām trying to remain optimistic that things will get back to normal soon, but stuff like this diminishes the odds of that.
Border services agent at Toronto airport tests positive - and you see how thousands of travelers are stuck in line for hours at customs?
Everyone going through that airport should be in isolation, but obviously it wonāt happen. Iām starting to wonder if maybe just letting the virus run its course could be the better option in the end, because the economy is going to be totally fucked once this shutdown is over and the longer it goes on the worse. Is the cure worse than the disease? That is the question.
Animals are getting it too
Next it could spread to squirrels, racoons, birds, bats, etc.
This is the conclusion that I came to the other day, with my limited knowledge of finance and economics:
Read this guyās twitter posts, he is a guy who knows about this stuff but I can only hope heās exaggerating the severity. It sounds like we are totally fucked if we donāt get things running again, the virus is nothing compared to the economic impact. Potentially 4% of the population could die from the virus, but if we end up with a famine or even war then what?
Tax cuts in a bull market, badgering the Fed to lower rates were indicators to me that the Trump administration was trying to put off a recession until after the 2020 election. Trump is heavily buoyed by a strong economy, and wanted to ensure that he had that as a talking point going into election season.
I donāt think a president should be given credit / blame for the performance of an economy, but since he claimed the past performance was all due to him, I will also give him blame for where it is now.
As I noted above, I had a feeling that this Fed intervention would do little. Itās a supply side issue, and those supply chains are months away from running at anything like healthy levels.
The fed just used the last tools in its toolbox and it didnāt make a dent.
I reckon the chances of a recession, and a U shaped one at that, are fairly good right now.
