I’ll try to find that later. Was genuinely asking as I thought I’d read as much and was wondering if someone else might have seen the same.
I just saw in the news this: Jair Bolsonaro, President of Brazil and discounter of the whole significance of Covid-19, is now infected with it. What will they think of next?
These biological life forms just don’t seem to give a crap what we think, do they?
Same things happen with mushrooms. I scoured this one section of woods for 20 years and know it like the back of my hand. Then last year after just the right rain, temp, etc. BOOM. A patch of chanterelles 50 yds. deep and 300 yds. long pops out of fucking nowhere.
Nature is a mother.
No one would argue that the risk is significantly higher for different people. What I took issue with was the casual idea that it’s not an issue for anyone else. The data doesn’t back that up especially if you don’t just consider fatalities which is not the way I would look at this solely.
And that leaves Out the obvious of more infected people increasing the chance of those higher risk people getting it anyways. The last thing we need right now at least in the US is people thinking it’s no big deal.
From what I have seen and heard, the risk of other complications or severe illness is only high among the same groups that are at risk of dying. It’s not zero risk for most people, we have been comparing it to the flu and the flu is something I try to avoid catching if possible.
That’s why I was saying that people who are around elderly or sick people like their parents or grandparents should do what is necessary to avoid getting infected, like wear a mask. And in places with a large number of cases it would be a good idea to wear a mask anyway just to slow down the spread.
She’s kind of hard to understand, so this was provided:
Key quotes:
“Intensive care units are getting empty, the wards are getting empty, we are really seeing a decrease — and that despite that people are really loosening up. The beaches are crowded, social distancing is not kept very well … but still the numbers are really decreasing. That means that something else is happening – we are actually getting closer to herd immunity. I can’t really see another reason.”
“I can’t say if the Swedish approach was right or wrong – I think we can say that in one or two years when we are looking back. You have to look at the mortality over the whole period.”
“I don’t think that we have more new cases, I think we are just detecting more cases”
“We found that if you have a mild case you can be negative for antibodies afterwards … in those almost all of them had strong T-cell activity. This study says that there are cases that you can have a strong T-cell response even though you have not had antibodies, meaning that you have encountered the virus and built up immunity.”
15,000 new here in Florida on Sunday, setting a national record. Another 12k today.
My mother in law lives in Florida, but is up in Minnesota currently. I am thinking she is going to wait it out up here. It is a vast difference between the two states.
Updated as of June 29:
There’s more than one way to generate immunity, which is one of the challenges to analysis for this situation. In that I am confident she is correct. How that plays into this pandemic, particularly in the US, is another matter.
I always forget you’re a Florida person. Stay healthy.
It’s gotten to the point at which I’m getting hesitant to go to the gym
*note: my kidneys are compromised, so I’m technically an “at risk” individual *
By hook or by crook to get that government cheese. This happens more than you know.
Most don’t understand this.
That’s just weird, looks like the scheme is to confuse people by manipulating data. This is another example of what I was saying in the other thread, a lot of people will realize they are lying and then take the whole thing for a hoax.
Here’s the deal for the dumbasses out there. You’ve either had COVID or you’ll get COVID. You’ll either die or be like the 99.5% and recover. It’s not going anywhere. Your government cannot keep you safe from a virus. But they can take your liberty. So stay home. Wear a mask. Convince yourself you’re safe. Let the rest of us live our lives.
There needs to be some sort of consensus on how this is going to be handled because otherwise it will just drag on and on and the economy in those places will be totally fucked. If they are shutting down for a 2nd time and there is no end in sight then there is a problem.
The way it appears to be going, further lockdowns are on the horizon. And yanno, that makes total sense. The first one failed (i.e. California), so what makes the government think a second one will magically work? People will live, people will die. It’s the way of life.
If they can’t make it work then they need a different strategy. In Ontario almost everything is going to be open in a few days, with some restriction still but at least we are moving in one direction rather than back and forth. Whatever gets things back to normal the fastest is the way to go.
If you’re an optimist:
