Large open air events in Europe in late February/early March, such as soccer games in Spain, Italy and UK have massively contributed to the spread of Covid-19.
Cheltenham and the Liverpool match in particular.
Somewhat of a damned if you do, damned if you donāt situation with the Liverpool match. The dreaded scouse would have demanded an inquiry for either the match going ahead or the match being cancelled.
Cheltenham was obviously kept open because the Tory money men like horse racing.
Not to mention that it depends on the demographics of the crowd as to how many fatalities there will be, and most of the rioters are younger. And I am willing to bet that many of them will not seek medical care. If the bump is big enough we will be able to see it in the state statistics, but thereās no way to tell right now, since reporting is incomplete at best.
This is a very interesting question. As I understand it, in the U.K. and USA, the black community has been especially afflicted with COVID deaths, which could mean this spike will be acutely among the most vulnerable groups.
And they probably live with their parents.
Hell yeah! Itās reason for another riot. Fight the power! Fight the Wuhan! Everybody was Kung Flu fighting!
Where are you? Are stores limiting the number of people inside and all that kind of stuff too or is it business as usual?
Until loppar mentioned the latest statistics the other day, I hadnāt seen heard anything about Sweden since the WHO said that Swedenās approach was working. Seems odd that not much was publicized since then. From what I see now, it looks like Swedenās main failure was not adequately protecting nursing homes. Itās the same issue everywhere else, but in Sweden it ended up worse than it would have with a full shutdown like elsewhere due to the number of people in the general public getting infected which in turn resulted in nursing home residents getting it too.
It seems to me that in general the Swedish approach was good, but one critical mistake made the difference between success and failure. You could say the same thing about other places that shut down like New York, the high death toll happened for the same reason plus the fact that they forced nursing homes to take COVID-infected patients.
The main takeaway here is whatever you do, if you want to minimize deaths from a highly contagious virus you have to prevent it from getting into nursing homes.
Unless the highly contagious virus targets people with healthy immune systems. Our last great pandemic did.
Have you ever been killed by PC before? No? Well, thereās a first time for everythingā¦
Apparently, if you mention on Facebook the simple fact that mass protests will be superspreader events, youāll be called a fascist, a pig and a Nazi.
Equal if not worse impact on the economy, Covid-19 still significantly present in general population, white collar people still working from home for the foreseeable future (disclaimer: based on people Iām in contact with). Whatās so good about it?
Late shutdown. Shutting down later means shutting down longer. Much longer.
What fresh postmodernist hell is this?
My brain is melting.
Meanwhile we have Barry Gardiner heading to Hyde park mere days after having a strop over the fact that a senior government advisor taking a trip to Durham castle didnāt get fired.
Donāt do drugs, children.
Seems there are conflicting reports on that:
It seems to be working out just fine aside from all the deaths in nursing homes. That is the one glaring error which accounts for the high death toll, taking things out of context and not considering the fact that the deaths were mostly in nursing homes doesnāt present an accurate picture.
Thereās no point in going on and on with the same argument because we wonāt get anywhere but as I have been saying and many experts agree as well, that isnāt necessarily true at all and if things had been done differently with nursing homes and high risk people elsewhere then the end result would have been much better. Where things are still shut down itās not too late to make sensible changes, rather than waiting around indefinitely when there are few infections or none in a particular area.
Welby forgetting what his office is. This squish is such a disaster for the Church of England, I wouldnāt be surprised to learn that he was a Papist plant.
Edited: because I somehow typed that Welby was in charge of the BoE, which would be the stuff of nightmares.
Edit: Iām a Catholic, so this is me making fun of Henryās church making an ass of itself.
Iāve been called a tool of white supremacy quite frequently today. Londoners apparently donāt like being told that the Met isnāt the Minneapolis PD, and that their strop about American policing, with the COVID spread and property damage in tow, is unlikely to result in a brighter future for Londoners.
Hey, itās not my city theyāre wrecking, so they can do them, I guess.
Edit: apparently defacing the Cenotaph is very important to the cause of justice too.
While I will defer to Loppar or others who have done more research on the situation itās nice to see some leaders take responsibility even if not all the way. I used to think taking responsibility was a common leadership trait and now itās framed as weakness or something. I guess I see it the opposite.
I am totally willing to buy into this. It would be the greatest prank of all time.
