I’m gonna have to disagree. Most “conservatives” argued that the tax cuts needed an offset in spending to keep it, at a minimum, debt neutral. Most “conservatives” have been advocating for a reduction in federal expenditures since forever… Just because Trump and Congress didn’t offset the cuts with a reduction in spending doesn’t mean “conservatives” have lost the argument of we can’t afford that. Adding debt to cut taxes is stupid. It has always been stupid. Spending 22% of GPD in 3-months is as dumb as it gets.
I guess we’re gonna find out if AOC’s we can print money as much as we want theory holds water.
It’s an additional $3T on top of the $2T we already spent and it’s probably not the last stimulus bill of the year. Hell, it’s probably not the last stimulus bill of the quarter.
“Just run the presses — print money,” Trump said, according to Woodward, during a discussion on the national debt with Gary Cohn , former director of the White House National Economic Council.
“You don’t get to do it that way,” Cohn said, according to Woodward. “We have huge deficits and they matter. The government doesn’t keep a balance sheet like that.”
So when Trump and the GOP controlled the legislative process, they passed a $2.3 trillion tax cut and…no meaningful spending reduction? We’ve had traditional Republicans in government and the new Trumpist version - and nothing but tax cuts and no meaningful attempt to balance anything by any of them.
And yet, “conservatives” still support them. (Not saying you.)
Sure they have. Who is the sponsor of conservative ideas in government? How have they performed? Have they ever been penalized by supporting “conservatives” for being so fiscally reckless?
How many “conservatives” protested when the foolish tax cut was passed? They feel moved to show up and protest when they can’t get haircuts or have to wear masks, but when one of their core values is being grossly violated by the party that’s supposed to be enacting that value and threatens the fiscal viability of the country, they…sit at home? And provide cover and apology by saying “hey, uh, the tax cuts are cool because they’ll, uh, stimulate the economy and, uh, deficits don’t matter!”
Are income taxes even necessary at this point what Congress’ belief perpetual deficits are no problem coupled with the ability to create money at will? I’m only half joking.
At this point in history, real conservatives can do little to influence policy. Most “representatives” are slightly right of center if they’re Republicans and, like every politician, does what serves themselves the most.
Conservatives in Congress? Like who?
Because I recall pretty much only AOC pushing the concept of modern monetary theory and discussed it on here a bit.
Trump says dumb things. I feel like I’ve made my position on President Trump pretty clear over the years and I don’t listen to or follow what he says almost ever.
Congress could suspend income and FICA taxes for working/middle-class Americans. Instead, we get these 1,400 page bills full of garbage.
In light of this latest 1800 page proposal of 3TT$ crafted entirely by Dems, and with blatant partisan targets such as weed and payments to illegals - how is your statement not whataboutism?
You and several others on pwi consistently claim fiscal conservatism (you specifically even used to vote GOP, according to posts in the past), but now you can’t say one negative thing about the Dems. If your answer is Trump lies or gop is no longer fiscally responsible, dont bother answering.
I am just looking for one post that actually calls out the illegal, immoral, or fiscally unconsciousable dealings of the communist swine that the Democrat party has increasingly morphed into since I have been of age.
Actually, current GOP is much, much more communist that the Dems behavior-wise.
Cult of leadership, iron discipline, shunning of dissenters, proclamations of public loyalty (it was called Party self critique in communism), group think, no distinction between the Party and public offices…
True. I also think what the President says holds far more weight than a freshman in the house.
I’ve done this but I won’t speak for TB. I haven’t read the bill or the highlights not that I think it truly matters as it has no chance of passing without significant input and changes from Republicans.
What I have an issue with is the people on here who call out the Democrats on this as if they are the party with most of the power for the last 4 years. As if they have had anyone at a high level who has even talked about fiscal irresponsibility in the same way the GOP leader has.
I think I’ve said on here if you only cared about winning the Presidency the ticket is to say you’ll keep everything and you’ll cut taxes. Trump not only did that, he told everyone he would and that the debt doesn’t even matter.
But we certainly have people on here who cast the stone more often to one side than the other and I’m as guilty of that as others.
Do we not have just as many if not more who lean right? You, twojar, Aragorn, usmc, all people who have said they lean right with you maybe consistently more than some of them (forgive me guys if you disagree with that just going off what I believe some of you have said). I wouldn’t be shocked if most of the posters in this thread leaned more right than left. Maybe you see what you want to see and think any criticism of Trump is liberals?
Then we have you, Nick, Allright who are even more right. I think you’d be hard pressed to find more regular left leaning posters than right. I’m just not sure how one would come to the conclusion the board is a liberal echo chamber.
Conservatives aren’t evil. It’s just your party isn’t conservative.
Did you read my post above how I am an opponent of both the tax cut and Dem bill? My point is about abandonment of common sense by both parties and calling them all out on it.
Sure I can - I’m against the current bill, and I was against Pelosi’s attempt to play games with the previous bill (trying to pass a Wish List bill instead of focusing on relief and relief only). I think the New Green Deal is nonsense. What else?
This isn’t serious. Democrats aren’t communists, and you just want to rant, and you won’t hear a negative word about the worst president on modern history.
