Coronavirus - What Happened?

Me either, @flappinit …and would have “Utah’d” her and straight-up ignored her “spontaneous” protest.

…and those Dumbasses fell right into the trap.

Not really. I think everyone looks ridiculous but if that’s what they want to do, so be it. It just strikes me as totally irrational.

I’m not too concerned if strangers think I look ridiculous. I get weird looks at the gym from the exercises I do, weird looks from the neighbors when I do farmers walks outside, and weird looks at times from friends when I don’t order dessert. I’m sure when I go to the store (rural conservative town) and I have one the people wearing confederate flag shirts snicker. Thats ok I think they look ridiculous with that on as well.

That’s cool. I think purposefully avoiding it because of looks is completely irrational. If one wants to take a stand on it and not wear one I don’t really care.

Trump could speed and be drunk while running over a pedestrian on the sidewalk and claim that he takes no responsibility as the pedestrian should have been further away from the road.

Good point. Just like when I see someone second knuckle-deep in his nose at a stoplight.

Edit: Why? Do you also think it’s irrational to wear a condom all day, everyday? Ever heard of the HIV?

Even though these are purely anecdotal observations, I find that interesting.

I think there’s a LOT and I mean A LOT of VERY local dynamics that will shape people’s thoughts on this whole situation. Upstate NY may be a lot like Maine, but you also share the same governor as NYC. There’s specific policies that will vary one place to the next, wildly varying local attitudes and varying economic compositions as well.

In short, context matters. COVID has barely touched Maine. Few even know someone with it, let alone anyone who has died from it. Our economic impacts might be among the worst in the nation, however.

I’ll also stress that I’ve only physically been in a small slice of the state and spoken with people I’m connected with personally or professionally. I’ve not spoken to all of Maine on this. Maybe some parts are masking up quite thoroughly.

I don’t see the harm in wearing one while I shop. I see it as a courteous spit-catcher, should I happen to be infected. If I had to guess at the reasons for non-compliance, I’d guess a mixture of herd mentality, IDGAF, active rebellion and good old-fashioned Fuck You!

I have seen a fair number of people walking and even biking with masks on, far from anyone else. To each their own, I suppose.

You don’t wear a mask to cause drama.

Not bad enough, apparently. And you care about their health even less.

Dealing with douchebags is so don’t worry.

Also known as team no friends. Well, he has one friend now, and so do you.

I have too. Mask compliance seems pretty high and quite a lot of people seem conscientious of the social distancing rules and what not.

Meanwhile on the eastern part of the state and up through the whole coastal north east, well, they’re pretty fucked.

I’ll keep my mask on and finger down on this one, pirates to global warming corollary or not.

Shocking, I tell you. Why spend so much of humanity’s resources on the science of epidemiology, when their conclusions are so easily defeated, by a meme no less? Who needs experiments, data, statistics and whatnot, when one can just cry “freedom”, and defeat the pandemic?

Why is no one talking about how aerosol virus can travel 27 feet. Or enter the body thru the eyes

They did tell everyone specifically not to wear masks a month ago.

Science is not politics, where changing one’s mind is treated as a failing. You are expected, required even, to change conclusions when new and contravening data are acquired. It is right, and it is normal.

I don’t know anyone who wears a mask all day everyday. I hardly wear mine except when at the places I already mentioned. The condom example works. You put a condom on when you want to lower the risk of something happening while you and others are “vulnerable.” You do the same with the mask.

If seat belts work why are some car crashes still fatal?!? And speed limits are the nanny state to the extreme I’ve heard.

  • If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with COVID-19.
  • Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.

Is science just now discovering whether or not masks are an effective barrier to virus transmission? Seems to me this should have been pursed out years ago.
