Coronavirus - What Happened?

What ever happened to pushharder anyway?

You can only push so hard before something comes out, that should have stayed in.

I see I missed something entertaining and possibly cringey.

I think it was PWI drama.

I always liked his lifting. He was a rugged dude.

Yeah, I miss having him around even though sometimes he’d make me roll my eyes. Dude could Zercher 500 lb. That’s worth something lol.

He was a rugged dude and had some absolutely beautiful land up north.

The character minimum limit when the forum was reformatted.

He couldn’t post his gold bricks anymore, and went full rebellion mode in a thread about it in the forum feedback section.

There was quite an exodus right about that time with people angry about new rules, 20 character min., losing their level status, etc.

This is true. I don’t care about the level status, but I will be DAMNED if I let you take my less than 20 character gold bars!

A great deal of the derision directed at libertarians or Rand-loving types or even the “full Kool-Aid” communists is because the people dismissing them remember being them.

Dealing with a pandemic happens to be one of those innumerable cases where for any measure of success, collective action is sine qua non.

As I look back at the original question-“Coronavirus-What Happened”/

A lot
but two things that I had hoped wouldn’t happen, have happened
and there is no turning back:

  1. It has clearly now become a “left-right” issue, and

  2. Has become a full-blown Governmental Conspiracy to a) control the populace and b) profit from the development of a Coronavirus Vaccine.

I suppose it all was inevitable.

I think the level of institutional distrust and partisan rancour that was there before the crisis did make it somewhat inevitable.

The UK hasn’t descended into it (yet) because we apparently have a higher level of institutional trust than anyone thought possible after the last few years.

It helps matters that our system has a clear winner, and we never bought into that French “separation of powers” nonsense.

Boo on SOP, says I.

I wonder if maybe you guys have the bar set at the correct level and expectations within realistic boundaries.

We don’t. Everybody who has a red team/blue team favorite player thinks that player walks on water, and it’s the other team that is preventing We The People from being happy or successful (what ever that means to the person).

That’s why I think political wonks of all strata could learn from your average Steelers fan. When they win, it’s because they’re great. When they lose its because “They suck and everybody needs to be fired. Right now! Fuck 'em all!”. :joy:

Imagine if we did that with politicians?

I think the media want people to see it this way, by portraying it that way, but most people do not.

Again, most people do not believe this. We live in a time when one Tweet represents millions of people. If you look at those protests in Michigan the number of people there was small but the coverage made it appear as though a handful of cosplay wannabe SF weirdos represented the typical republican.

The political elite (of both parties) will not allow for that - if the other side, the dreaded them is perceived by your supporters as the epitome of all evil, they’re very forgiving to your flaws (rape accusations, criminal charges and so on).

As the U.K. plod start to check people’s groceries and fine people for being on their front lawn, I suppose it’s time to re-recommend the quintessential book on the disaster that has been the ‘reformed’ British police.

Damnable gendarmeries, I may as well be French.

They win World Cups.

Dreadful at cricket though. Passably good at Rugby, so it’s a mixed bag.

I’m just saying, they won’t want you.

I assure you, the feeling is mutual. If I could drive every French idea into the sea, I would. Alas, my ruling class has never shared that desire.

Still upset about that Springbok win, but it beats a Kiwi win.
