If one has to die in office, there isn’t a better way than this.
Faure died suddenly from apoplexy in the Élysée Palace on 16 February 1899, while engaged in sexual activities in his office with 30-year-old Marguerite Steinheil.

Disagree, unless there are no 23-year-olds left.
Yeah. If Greenboy taught us anything, it’s that 30 year old women are…undesireable. Even if they’re 29 it’s gonna be better.
What is this?
A former poster who was banned. I don’t recall him being on PWI very much, or maybe at all, so if this is the only spot you post you probably wouldn’t have seen him.
@anon50325502 and @flappinit,
I recently read if you simply take the number of minutes in a year and divide by the number of people who die in NY in a given year you get one death every 9.1 minutes. So, one death every 2.5 minutes does seem like a lot but some of those deaths would have happened anyways.
Although technically correct, I do think the headline is a bit disingenuous as expressing it as minutes per death invites the reader to think of the deaths as though they are going to march steadily on like time itself. And even if this continues - or gets worse - the rate of deaths will subside in a matter of weeks. That’s inherent in the math.
It’s a bit like saying that because one hour and forty-two minutes elapsed between the time Flight 11 hit the north tower of the WTC and the north tower collapsed, that during that period terrorism claimed 25 lives every minute.
It sure seemed like that to Italians. Imagine how the hospital staff see it.
Until then…
Extrapolation. The stereotypical rookie mistake made by the (non)thinking man.
Boris Johnson has been hospitalised.
WTF man?
What a despicable piece of human garbage. People are dying but he needs to get some MAGA in. He should see how people die from covid 19 before butchering Shakespeare for an audience that wouldn’t know he was referring to Shakespeare.
Who did he eat?
Ever since he announced that he tested positive, I have this deeply unsettling gut feeling that something bad will happen to the man. I pray that I’m wrong.
I know he’s obsessed with Pericles, let’s all hope he won’t emulate him completely…
Agreed on both points. I’m seriously worried right now.
I haven’t heard a lot in the way of updates from many areas of the world. Some maybe are more totalitarian and the information coming out of them is intermittent, and some maybe are not as much click worthy i suppose I should say.
So, I decided to throw this story out here from the Canadian north. Most Canadians would think the northern half, or more, of the country to be a foreign land. Only so many have passed through it, i always wanted to at some point, when I don’t know:
The 1918 pandemic hit them hard, and if there was a generalized outbreak they would have difficulty getting medical treatment. I wonder what natural anti bodies they have against coronaviruses in general, and if they would get slammed if it gets epidemic up there.
Although different in many aspects a lot of rural America isn’t prepared either. Many counties don’t have beds or hospitals. Even Those that do are woefully unprepared from a resource standpoint. Most of these people will need transportation to bigger cities more equipped to handle that. But some of those cities may already been in their own crisis of resource shortages. These places (like where I’m from) people all tend to go to the same spots anyways. My hometown has one gas station, bank, restaurant. It wouldn’t be crazy to think that one person can end up infecting most of the town based on that before anyone is even aware they are sick.
The Native population in America, at least in most spots, is pretty much the same. Very little resources. Many areas of the Navajo Nation (American Southwest) don’t even have running water. I also think social distancing and isolation will take a harder toll on many, due to the pretty tight communities.
There was a girl here (17y/o) with her mother, they were driving around. Prior to turning 18 you need to acquire 120 hours of supervised driving in order to get you’re probationary license (ability to drive without an adult in the car, we are fucking draconian about this)
Police stop her, and fine her nearly 2000$… They weren’t getting out of the car.
We are containing the spread… At the cost of infringing upon civil liberties… I’d say this is acceptable for 1-2 months, but the PM is talking about this level of draconian restriction lasting til October. I have a problem with that… We aren’t China…
That seems like a good way to get people to start questioning your measures. As you can’t fine everyone, you need to have the public onboard and not seem like a tyrannical government.
