I was on my way to work this morning, and oh happy day, what did I hear on the radio? None other than Rage Against The Machine w. their new vocalist, Mr. Chris Cornell. I about pulled over to the side of the road! WOW!!! I think it was the first track they were playing, and it sounded unbelievable!!! I’m downloading all the rest of them as we speak…some of the tracks are a bit mellow for my tastes, but so far tracks one and six are bad ass!!
Yeah, I’ve been waiting a while for this. The members of Rage along with Cornell had a somewhat tumultous beginning, nearly separating after laying down many studio tracks. The same tracks were then pilfered by some moron at the studio and put online. They were decent at best (none of them made the album) and for a while it appeared the project would cease. Cornell returned and new songs were written, among those the opening track of the album and first single “Cochise.” Audioslave will definitely be a force. I beleive rap-rock can be excellent if done well. The entire scene, however, has become hypersaturated with bands of the same genre and, consequently, the same sound, lyric themes, ect. I think it happens with every modern category of music, staleness sets in when nothing dynamic or fresh induces evolution. One could also cite marginal talent and record labels seeking fast cash off the OHW’s (One Hit Wonders), but that is a long and seperate issue. Suffice to say this is going to be one tight group.
