Constipation from Green Tea?

I was just reading that tea can cause constipation due to the tannins.

I’ve had some days where I think I may have been suffering from this, where I drink a lot of tea then end up a bit backed up or having uncomfortable preworkout dumps.

I was wondering if anybody knows the tannin content of green tea or has experienced this.

I enjoy drinking green tea and try to drink it instead of coffee throughout the day. I guess I can switch to green tea extract pills, but that eliminates the enjoyment of drinking the stuff.

I usually end up drinking a lot of it, i.e. 4+ cups w/ maybe 3 cups of coffee throughout the day.

I drink 1-2 liters per day and have not had any problems with this. You might be psyching yourself out. If you keep having these problems, cooks up some of Shugart’s Flax Bread (search for it), you will perform like a champion in the bathroom.

meh. what the heck. This doesn’t answer your question about green tea, but I just ran across this and thought it was worth posting here nonetheless. For the record though, I have no idea what the difference is between the bacteria strains mentioned in the study:

“Improvement of constipation and liver function by plant-derived lactic acid bacteria: A double-blind, randomized trial”

Conclusion: The present study suggests that Lb. plantarum SN13T exhibits a superior probiotic effect on constipation in addition to improving the serum lipid contents and liver function.

I just checked my probiotic and it says it contains L Plantrum, but it doesn’t say nor did I know there was a difference between Lb. plantarum SN13T and Lb. plantarum SN35N
