If you have virus protection on your computer, do you have to repurchase it every year? If not, do you have to strip it and go with another one, or is turning it off enough?
Thank you.

avast! is a great program and it’s free ![]()
AVG, even better, and it’s free!
My still works, but it doesnt get new updates once the subscription is done for. But yet, I still had to completely refigure the hard drive 3 times since my family got the computer.

Sure enough. You’re paying for the updates and subscription.
If you’re changing companies, then uninstall it.

Seconded. It is a fantastic free product. Use it in conjunction with ZoneAlarm free firewall.

If you don’t update, something may have already got you. There are new viruses created every day. These are not all released into the wild and many have the same core engines and so get picked up by older scan engines but still.
Don’t forget to use some ant-spyware software too. Have a look at spybot S&D http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Another bit of free software that’s worth it’s weight in gold.
Alternatively, use Linux. ducks
Even better. A Mac.
Last I heard the latest Mac release was hacked faster on its launch than Vista.
