Commercials During Football Games

Anyone watch these dumb motherfucking things? I swear to God, I usually have no fucking idea what they’re even selling…Bud Light, Coors, Miller Light? Why would I possibly base which dumb ass watered down beer I buy based on the commercials…I drink Bass Ale and Guinness…so I wouldn’t buy Miller, Bud or Coors if you paid me (well…if you paid me a lot I might), but seriously…who gives a fuck about these beers? Don’t you just buy the cheapest ? And the truck commercials??? Would you really base which truck you buy, based on a commercial ?? I buy my cars used at Car Max…

So…seriously…is anyone influenced to buy the products these commercials are selling? I find them amusing, entertaining, etc…I just never, ever find that they compel me to buy anything…

Agreed.

Except for Super Bowl commercials, those are just plain elite. Except for last year too… those were really bad compared to the SB commercials I saw in my childhood.

all commercials suck I just pause the tv for a bit so I can watch game without interruption.

shizen, love your avatar.

and anyway, commercials are generally funny to watch. some are stupid, most are decent, and some are good.

last year’s SB sucked as far as commercials, I have to agree with you there.

This doesn’t just apply to shitty beer commercials. The only thing I ever see advertised on TV are products with no qualities to differentiate them from their competitors. A long time ago I realized that I have never made a buying decision based on television advertising. Does anyone know how much it costs to air one of these commercials? The coors light “press conference” commercials are funny, but the only reason I buy the product is because it’s usually the cheapest swill available. It simply offers the best drunk-to-expense ratio.

I think the commercials are detrimental to the Super Bowl. They take away from the most important thing… the game. Because the commercials pull in more female viewers to watch the game, we also have to deal with all the extra sentimental side stories that they normally don’t talk about during football games.

Commercials suck in general, but apparently they do have a pretty big impact on society. Look at how materialistic so many people in the U.S. have become. Part of that must be due to the relentless advertising. Everybody is trying to convince us that we need to buy all kinds of crap. Some people are easily convinced.

I would argue that the most important thing by far would be the commercials. They are why the Super Bowl is played. CBS or whoever would not be bringing you HD coverage of the Super Bowl without commercial support.

They do have a big impact, and that is why there is so much money in marketing. Advertisers know that their biggest problem is not convincing you objectively that their product is superior, but rather affecting you emotionally to feel drawn to their product. Politicians know this to be true as well. Watch speeches by the current presidential candidates and note how many times they try to portray an image of being a leader or creator of change compared to how many times they lay out exactly what they would do and how they would do it that separates them from other candidates. Hillary will get more votes from her little tear-up the other day compared to explaining her plans for health care. We, as a people, are very subject to emotional and subliminal ploys. We have stupid commercials simply because they work, which is sad.

I’ve never purchased anything due to a commercial either, but they are funny.

I’m sitting here right now watching the Colts & Chargers. They showed a commercial w/Eli & Peyton Manning giving up football and starting a new sport. They were competing against each other trying to see who could lick the inside of an Orea cookie the fastest!

It didn’t tempt me to buy Oreos but it sure made me laugh!!

I LOVE the Peyton Manning Pep Talk commercials!

The one where he says you’ll never have 6 pack abs unless your under the age of 23 or a professional ftball player and you should just buy bigger shirt!!!

ABSOLUTELY FREAKING HELARIOUS!!!

Ahhh…3 minutes till half time

Colts 10 - 7 ;D

I think what I heard this year is $2.5M for a 30 second spot during the Super Bowl.

I know what you mean, I’m just talking as a football fan who doesn’t want commercials to take the spotlight over the game. I just don’t like when I’m watching the Super Bowl, then there is a break in the action and somebody gets excited that there’s going to be commercials.

Too late. Cowboys lose.

Colts and Cowboys knocked out of the playoffs in one day.

Suddenly all that anti-Patriots shit-talking isn’t coming on nearly as thick.

The one with the referee saying he blew the call and the one with the coach yelling “Playoffs! PlayoFFS!” were good ones. That was real life footage too.

Referee commercial - Subway

Jim Mora Press Conference - Coors Light

All the NFL coaches in the Coors Light commercials are real interview footage, but Mora was the funniest by far.

Those are good. The new Toyota Tacoma commercial with the alien spaceship that destroys the earth is pretty good too.

I also liked this Snickers Commercial:

If that game couldnt hold your attention, I dont know what could.

The only thing that would have made that game better would have been Jessica Simpson running onto the field to give loverboy a kiss and having Osi pummel her and romo at the same time, resulting in Osi’s neener in her mouth.

As for commercials, most of them are retarded and hold very little, if any, influence on an self respecting consumer.

For the ones that are good, they’re usually fucking histerical.

Yeah, so I heard…I only watched the 1st quarter then had other things to do. Now I’m sorry I missed it. My X is from NJ & loves the Giants so I heard about it afterwards. ;(

I noticed that.

Commercials During Football Games a/k/a “The Peyton Manning Hour.”

I like the priceless pep talk commercials…but…without looking it up…what exactly are they advertising ???

Also…the ref admitting the wrong call…it’s funny…I have done the same exact thing when I ref intermural soccer games…but…what was the ad selling ??? Can’t remember at all…
