Slightly off topic, but why was Brandon Spikes only suspended for half a game for trying to poke a dudes eyes out?
It’s also amusing that Spikes said after the BCS Title game that OU played dirty.
What people don’t know, is how dirty guys play on the field. When you see a fumble and huge piles of men fighting for the ball, you would not believe the shit going on. Guys grabbing nuts, digging fingers into your ear hole, pinching, whatever you can get away with really.
I didn’t play ball at the level you did, but I’m aware of some things that can occur.
It still doesn’t excuse it, especially when it can lead to permanent injury. If you saw the replay I think you would agree. There was no other intent by Spikes but to seriously hurt the Georgia player.
There was an incident earlier in the game, maybe Georgia’s first possession where the play was whistled dead (false start or the like). The Georgia running back with the ball stopped and Spikes head butted him, in front of the refs no less, yet no penalty was called.
Point is, that is the type of player he is. Obviously, it doesn’t seem to bother Meyer, or he would have suspended him, at least for a game.

I agree with your statement, but people who have not played football just think it is a group hug.
Who thinks that way?
Addition I get it that people who have never played might not know what happens in the aforementioned situations, but I have yet to hear anyone claiming football is lolly pops and bunny rabbits.
He will go back to the basics, I really don’t know how you recover from shit like that.
You take it out on your next opponent. I feel sorry for Arizona State this weekend. USC will not be embarrased again.
I really don’t know, I am not sure they can rebound from something that bad. They really looked demoralized.
I think Coach Pete is going to run their ass till they dont remember the game. He will have them ready to take out their frustrations. If he doesn’t then they need to fire him.

They aren’t going to fire him over 1 bad game. 7 Pac-10 titles means he is doing something right.

Definitely. This shit just can’t become a regular habit.
IOWA is the best TEAM in the country period! All you haters are jealous. If Iowa is so overrated why can’t anyone beat them? Is Penn State overrated too then? Bring on Ohio State they have not been that great this year. Iowa goes 12-0 and probably would still get screwed.

On one hand, Iowa reminds me of the OSU team I got to watch in 02-03, who seemingly let every game go down to the wire, especially the Purdue game. On the other hand, that OSU team had quite a few absolute blowouts under their belts too, and didn’t trail much in any of their games(despite the fact that a hand full were very close, one posession games).
You’d think as a big10 fan I’d be rooting for Iowa to make this happen, but I am so fearful that they get exposed in a national title game(yes, I have seen that movie before) that I’d rather them lose so we can wait until a team that will get us our respect back can get there(could be awhile, depends how that young Michigan team turns out maybe in the next few years).
I have 0 faith that a team that needed two blocked FG’s to beat Northern Iowa, and 2 retarded ass overturned replays and a freak pick6 to beat Indiana, will look good against a big time team.
With all of that said though, OSU has played so bad on offense lately(New Mexico and Minn don’t count) that I have my doubts they can beat PSU in Happy Valley, which means beating Iowa doesn’t knock them out of at least the Rose Bowl, where any of the above mentioned 3 will get absolutely raped by Oregon anyways because that team looks fucking good.

I respect your opinion and yes OSU did completely fail in the NCG twice but Iowa is the most resilient team in the nation I admit to being biased to Iowa but I would not bet against them in the NCG no matter who they play. Besides the top 3 teams have not looked like a pull away favorite in any way. Florida has stumbled and Texas has not been real good. Also Alabama I would say is the best of the three. I still think though that Iowa will get the Rose Bowl and pull out the win against Oregon.
Iowa is the only Big 10 team that consistently does well in bowl games against the “speed” of the SEC. I believe we have won 3 out of the last 4 against SEC teams with the only loss the 2006 Outback vs. Florida when the refs called us offside on the onside kick.
That being said I hope we play well these last three weeks and whatever happens, happens. Its been a special season.
Iowa lost 6 turnovers last week, and had they been playing a quality team and NOT Indiana, they would have lost badly. When you get that close to losing time and time again, it becomes inevitable.
Texas has upped it’s stock with me and voters, I think they have pretty much solidified their position in the National Championship Game, assuming they don’t get lazy and blow it with their last few remaining games. I think Florida is better than Alabama, and so I predict a Florida-Texas BCS Game.

Welcome to the DarkSide. I will say that when Pete gets the defence back to elite level USC is going to be in the hunt the next 2-3 years. Can’t argue the fact those three linebackers are competing for Rookie of the year in the NFL. Hard to replace that level of talent in three key positions.

I’ve been mixed on Iowa the whole year (but I’m glad y’all stomped the shit outta my school’s rival in the bowl game last year, it’s always good to see those criminals lose!) ever since y’all having to block 2 FG’s against Northern Iowa to win that game by a point, but y’all do keep winning no matter what anyone else says.
This won’t happen but what if it does? If Florida, Bama, and Texas all lose one game and TCU, Cincy, and Iowa all go unbeaten, look out, chaos yet again, it’d be nice if those old fuckers would realize you will never have a real national champion until you put in a real playoff system (not the fucking BCS, I dont’ care what they say, that is NOT a playoff system, that is a popularity contest and always will be as long as human perception is apart of the equation)

2-3 years? Pete will be working on fixing things 2-3 days after the season ends. What I look forward to is the development of Barkley, he will be much better, and the defense will have it’s problems worked out. I worried that this year would be a bit of a rebuilding year, and it looks to be that way. We lost 8 starters from the defense, and that will take a toll on any team.

If your scenario were to unfold why shouldn’t Chick-fil-a and Iowa play for the title. They are part of the cartel. Of course the Big 12 and SEC are a cartel within the cartel and may not take too kindly to a fringe member stealing their thunder. The BCS is an old boy network and a fraud. I’m surprised noone has called them on the carpet for it, there has to be an anti-trust violation in there somewhere. The unheard of small schools going deep in the post season is the very thing that makes March Madness and the College Baseball playoffs interesting. A couple of years ago in baseball some of the big schools were looking down their nose at Fresno and saying they never play anybody, atleast until Fresno kicked everybody’s ass on the field and won the College World Series. This would never have happened in football, they would have been relegated to the Boise bowl or some such foolishness. Football needs a playoff, ad one with 30-40 teams.

Well Barkley was what I was thinking about when I said 2-3 years. It just worked out this year that he lost too many starters on defense. Pete has shown that he can reload with QB’s, but you of all people know that defense wins championships. If Texas wins this year it will be because our defense have finally stepped up to an elite level.

I agree with the playoff, don’t know how they would do it with that many teams, these are college kids. However, the reason the big schools are the big schools is because of the depth at each position. Baseball and Basketball can be dominated by single players. Football is a team sport, the small schools might win a few but as you go deeper in the playoff schedule with injuries etc. the small schools would lose.

Based on what you say the “depth” of the big boys would carry them through the post season. Thats part of the risk, a lot of times the healthiest team wins. Atleast that way the small schools have a chance to prove it on the field. As it is now they are relegated to the Boise bowl or the one at Ford stadium where they are either playing another small school, or someone from one of the “power” conferences that is barely bowl eligible after beating a 1AA team and a Sunbelt team, which doesn’t give them much chance to prove anything.
One other factor in my ideal scenario. Cut back the season to 10 games. Play 8 conference games, 1 for a big name opponant, maybe 1 for a local rival. No more 1AA bodybag games.
