I read a funny story this morning in the LA Times here. A sports columnist calls up the USC PR guy to ask for an interview with Mitch Mustain (the QB who people wanted put in while pulling the choking Aaron Corp). The PR guy says that all QB interviews are to be held on Tuesday. The columnist asks, does Pete Carroll know Mitch Mustain is a QB? I thought it was funny, sorry its a slow morning, is this thing on?
Love it. I am skeptical of Mustain, but fuck he’s got to be better than Corp. I mean, Corp was making statements about how he was ready to go and sort of got screwed out of the job by an injury, and yet when he gets his one shot (cue “Lose Yourself”) takes an absolute shit all over the field. WTF?!?! And then I read on ESPN that he is splitting first-team snaps with Barkley? I don’t get it . . .

Between my four football teams (Nebraska, USC, Washington Redskins, and San Diego Chargers) there is not a lot to be happy about right now.

Although Oklahoma doesn’t play Miami until next weekend, the Hurricanes have already begun to count down the days until the game.

They better not look ahead this weekend playing Virginia Tech, that should be a great game though. Miami’s secondary better tighten up when they play Oklahoma because if OU has a decent amount of time to throw the ball it could be a high scoring game.

Well, as I said previously, Oklahoma’s receivers have underachieved and need to improve. I think the Miami secondary will match up with them just fine.

Despite how Miami plays this weekend, I think OU will need to play damn near perfect if they want to win on the road, in Miami. And, as of now, I’m not sure Bradford is going to start. I’d say it is 50/50 right now as to whether he plays.

From what I’ve heard about Jones after he was thrown int he fire the 2nd half against BYU he’s been progressing fairly well (6 TD passes against Tulsa I think, granted it’s tulsa but I heard that was a school record?) Granted Miami aint Tulsa but impressive none the less.

My feeling is that Pete Carroll felt that as bad as Corp was playing, it was better than Mustain could offer. This is what my gut tells me. If Mustain was capable, I am sure Pete would have put him in.

Everyone always underestimates Texas… I agree their offense is looking a little mediocre… Mccoys forgotten how to throw a proper pass etc… But they always step up to the plate when they need too. They never blow anyone out of the water like OU etc… but they still bring a win.

Spike, we hear theirs a group of about 20-25 of y’all gonna be tailgatin there in Clemson on saturday, most of our fans (I can’t say all the students will be as respectful because being less than a year removed we know how our freshman are) will by far treat your fans with respect and class. I really wish I could be there this weekend
Wish I was makin the trip. Went to the Gary Patterson radio show taping last night. He mention your fast guys, Spiller and the WR, and your 2 Def lineman. They are going to show the game on the jumbotron at the basketball arena. I’ve been very impressed with your fans this year, as well as UVAs. We’ve been to some real rat holes over the years. You guys are a cut above.

UT makes me crazy (especially in baseball). When I get behind them they choke, when I count them out they step up.

appreciate the kind words man, I can guarantee y’alls fans will be treated respectfully, well at least before and after the game, but during haha its game on! All bets are off between 2:30 and 5:45ish (central of course) but I wish I could be there as well.

If you’re lookin for a player or two on our side that isn’t getting a lot of attention in the pre-game discussions, look out for Brandon Maybe (MLB) and Andre Ellington (he’s a little smaller than spiller but has that quickness and runs between the tackles better than we’ve seen Spiller do so far this year). I know to keep an eye (if not both of em) on Hughes and that Jr QB y’all have, anyone in particular no ones talkin bout pre-game to keep an eye on?

Well another top 5 team goes down to an unranked conference opponent. Ole Miss really should have won the game at the end there. They were balling like no body’s business and then fucked it up with that stupid halfback toss they were trying to run. It looks like he was gonna throw to the QB, but Snead slipped and fell so he just hung onto the ball. That set up 3rd and 12, which lead to a sack, then a penalty, then it’s 4th and a mile and you get forced into a terrible situation. Why, oh why, did they try to get cute instead of sticking with what was working?

Anyway, a fun game at the end. I still say the top three teams right now are Florida, Penn St., and Cal. In fact, my top five looks like this:

 1. Florida
 2. Penn St.
 3. Cal
 4. Texas
 5. Miami

beginning rant/

I’ll say this right now South Carolina may have won tonight (refs, you completely missed that facemask that should been called on 3rd down) but they are NOT that good (especially with Mr. Arrested 3 times Stephen Garcia), you want to talk about mediocre look at South Carolina’s history, and being my school’s biggest rival (sadly) I know a ton about them. They’ve won our annual rivalry game twice in the last 12 years, they haven’t beaten us 2 years in a row since 1968 and 1969, no national titles, no sec titles (let alone their division), and have never finished in the top 10 in any poll EVER. They may have outplayed Ole Miss through 3 quarters but they almost chocked yet again. Spurrier has already exceeded his total losses at Florida through not even 6 complete years at the fake USC. / end rant

Outside of McCluster, Ole Miss looked really slow tonight. He was their offense and him not being on the field on the 2nd to last play of the game for Ole Miss on 3rd down was stupid, flat out stupid.

Penn State really hasn’t played anybody yet but three straight games of giving up 7, 6, and 7 points is impressive against anyone. We’ll see how they do against Iowa saturday night but if they win that game it could almost be smooth sailing for them until Ohio State in November.

Cal looks pretty good so far, we’ll see if they can finally get by the real USC , if they do look out.

heres an article that does a great job of summing up tonights game http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/12258574

God we played terrible tonight. I have never been so disappointed in the Rebels as I was tonight. Sure there were bad calls but we played truly horrible. My only hope is that this is the kick in the ass we need to get it going. Still have bama and LSU for redemption later on.

Beating both those teams would put y’all right back towards the top, but y’all have to play a lot better from here on out, just looked sloppy and slow to be honest.

He has improved and looks comfortable running the offense. The problem is that OU’s offensive line is still a work in progress, which Stoops has, in so many words, said the same thing. Landry Jones will do just fine if he has time to throw, but Miami’s got athletes on their defense line and I see them getting pressure on Jones.

And the six TD’s Jones had against Tulsa was a school record.
