i took it after my workout wich is 2 -3 hours before my bedtime and couldnt get to sleep at all that night anybody else found this?

Really? Earlier in the thread you said you took it with whey and stuff before your workout and was able to workout “HARD”

which one is it?

Sure you can cook with flaxseed oil, but even modest heat and light exposure radically destroys its excellent health properties. That’s a fact. Yes you can cook with it… but why - if you are killing off its power? Its pretty expensive too, so why burn away your money if you end up cooking with an oil devoid of its nutritional prowess. Better to use peanut oil for high heat cooking or extra-virginolive oil for low heat cooking. Always have flaxseed oil it in its natural state and you’ll get the fullest benefits from it possible which are quite substantial.

Phill is largely tied up in Kansas right now at a less than stellar point in his life. Mom passed but Im trying to keep in touch on the forum.

What exactly are we looking for on coconut oil/milk. etc. Sorry what is the question I will try and help.

In short I feel it is a GREAT source of sat fats. Magical. I dont think so YET though the MCTs are quite compelling.

I have found it VERY beneficial during fat loss phases for FAST energy
much like that of carbs but one that doesnt leave the body crashing and looking for yet MORE silpe sugar but in a PRIMED fat burning state. I use it in my Post w/o meal when cutting is a MAJOR priority.

Now during bulks I use it late in the day and yes sometimes Prebed This gets those fats burning and hopefully if all the info is correct the MCT are pretty much used and not stored. Also since im a Cheap poor sucka I tend to get VERY lean cuts of meat due too not being able to afford the Optimal grass fed beef etc so my sat fats are low. So I get very little in the way of sats from meats and get them ion the form of coconut and my other fats from fish oils, nuts olives etc.

Then there is NUMEROUS other studies showing VAST improvements in culture of tropical environs that coconut is a HUGE part of there diet. were talking little to NO cancer even with HUGE exposure to sun. AWESOME skin. Great cholesterol levels. Body Comp The list goes on and on.

Thats the Broad touch of it. Yes I feel it is a GREAT addition to a balanced fat profile in our diets. Like all others though I feel it needs to be balanced with the other good fats and not taken in excess. Dont go over board. BUT many with our interest short them selves of sats due to our excessively clean diet and simply by the addition of this AWESOME source I for whatever that counts feel there is GREAT hormonal and general health benefit we can get from the rising in the sats with its addition due to low levels of other intake. They (sats)are said to have a direct link in T production as well as other crucial hormones.

That and I know I for one will up them if cutting due to the energy and fat burning effect or when coming off any substance that may have my T levels suppressed just as an added boost.

OH boy that was a little dip into a BIG ole can o worms that is coconut fats. I suggest you Pub med and google it as well and ask and Ill try and help when and as I get back to normal life.

Oh last as sources I tend to lean toward either the Milk or simply dried UN SWEET REAL coconut and not the oil both for taste and hell its a TON cheaper and no worry about the need of it being Virgin as with the oil.

Magic NO I personally wont take it as far as many in the post have. we all seem to jump on new thing and take them TOO far. More is NOT always better or even near optimal. A great addition yes,

OK hope that helped,
Phill

Hi There. My question with regards to coconut oil is: is one time better to take it over another? At the moment I am not cutting, nor bulking. More maintenance/lean gaining, training using the Waterbury Method.

I don’t get a chance during the day to have it as I train early in the morning and the first half of the day is all P/C meals. My P/F meals start at around 4pm, followed by 7pm and prebed. I was thinking of having it either at 4pm, earlier in the day, or prebed. However tha fact that it is ‘instant energy’ leaves me wondering if it is good before bed or not.

Alternatively I was thinking of having it together with meals. Currently I have a few almonds with each meal. Perhaps I could have a tablespoon of coconut oil (about the same as all the almonds I have during the day) and spread that out across 3-4 meals, having a little with each meal.

X

Honestly either way would work IMO. Some fat is NOT going to hurt during P+C meal. yes I sticlk to those combos largely but some wont hurt and for the past few months I have been doing a nice mixed meal PWO with carbs and healthy fats and it works just fine. There is a HUGE difference in a doughnut and milk PWO as healthy carbs, Protein, and some cocnut milk.

Then also I have NO prob having cocnut in my bed time meal and sleeping. Go either way if you have probs try the other.

Hope that helps,
Phill

Sorry, off topic – but does anybody else think the ox’s ass is a little too close to the coconuts?

As long as he doesn’t fart, lol.

Good thing you only eat the inside.

Hi Again. Thanks for the info. The most convenient time for me would be before bed really. Mixes well with my prebed cottage

So you say there shouldn’t be a problem before bed? I thought perhaps since it is an MCT or the way it is utilized by the body would make it inappropriate. It won’t affect my sleep (experimented 2-3 times before), so other than possible sleep disruptions is it safe in the last meal?

One thing you guys should know before you start using it…coconut oil is solid below (I think) 76 degrees. So…during the winter you’ll need to warm it up before you mix it with cottage cheese/protein shakes. Also, it keeps me up if I have it late at night. Something else to consider. FYI: http://wildernessfamilynaturals.com/ is another good place for coconut products.

It depends.I would NEVER use vegetable oil for cooking.I usually use flaxseed or coconut oil.Coconut oil is the healthiest oil around. You want an energy booster?Try this one hour before working out:one tablespoon of organic coconut oil,one scoop of whey, some creatine, and some skim milk. This will really give you energy to workout HARD! Does for me![/quote]

hey Reaper - never use flax for cooking, it’s totally unstable as a polyunsaturated oil. Use coconut or an extra-virgin cold-pressed olive oil as second best. Butter is okay too. But no polyunsaturated oils - they’re not stable when exposed to heat, light or air.

Maybe they aren’t coconuts. Hmmmmmmmm…

Yeah, thanks.I used flaxseed a few times because I read on some news website that flaxseed oil, when cooked at a low heat, doesn’t turn into trans fat.

True - but it, and other polyunsaturated oils, are still not stable to cook with. Stick with monounsaturated (high quality olive oil - meaning first cold pressing extra virgin), or best of all, coconut oil.

When polyunsaturated oil is heated, it doesn’t turn into trans fat, but it does lose all it’s healthy properties, and free radicals are formed, which are definitely damaging - trans fat isn’t the only fat to watch out for. That’s why I get pissed when I see health food stores selling food cooked with sunflower oil - a terrible choice for cooking and baking.

Damn, thats bad.I’ve been seeing that in stores too!Not a good choice!I usually use pam or coconut oil now.I haven’t had too much time to actually bake anything, lol.

I have a question. I know that I should get the virgin coconut oil that’s all natural, but I just recently got the Lou-ana coconut oil that isn’t hydrogenated, but is bleached, deodorized, and refined. I guess it won’t be as good as the virgin coconut oil, but is it still really healthy?
