Coan-Phillipi - Success AND Failure

A friend of mine did it
He started at 365 hoping to hit 405.
He smoked 405. The speed that it went up…he definately would’ve gotten 3-4reps with it.
He was very pleased with it.
But also he never really deadlifted much before so…that of course has somethnig to do with it.

Several norwegians have done this program, some have gained 30kg+. The saying is that it is very hard, but if you make it through, you become very strong. Several people reported being injuried from it too…

I am doing it now- but with a twist. I am doing it to improve my deficit pull and reverse band pull. I figured the weights for both progressions and train deficit pulls on odd weeks on reverse bands on even weeks. I like the reverse bands because it tracks pretty closely to what I pull in a suit at a meet and the bottom deload gives my lower back a break. The deficit pulls are hard work but impove my snap off the floor.

I have been stuck at a 635 deficit pull for about a year- I have gotten 655 and 675 to my knee and missed probably 5 to 10 times. I am just starting the program. I have a meet 11 weeks out, so I’ll skip week 10 to give myself a deload before the meet.

decided to max again which would have been week 9

Another 20lb PR Hit 495 for a total of 60lbs gained

I’d say that was a good training cycle, nice job man.

Good form for a max lift too, nice flat back!

Monopoly

Thanks Monopoly. Now onto 585…

Bumping it up bitches!!

Any more stories??

Started it today. Getting ready for a comp in December that I’m just gonna token squat and heavy push/pull so I’m backing off my squat training a bit hoping to get my pull up.

Here’s today’s log entry;

"Coan-Phillipi - Day 1

Kipping Pull Ups (these were ridiculously non-kipped):
3x10

Power Cleans (ish):
60kg x3
70kg x2
80kg x2
90kg x2
100kg x1
107.5kg x1
112.5kg - 1x2 (1 power + 1 full), 1x2 (both power), 1x2 (1 power + 1 full)

Deadlifts:
112.5kg x3
140kg x3
belt
180kg x2
205kg x2
162.5kg 8x3 (60 second reset periods)

----start of giant set (60 seconds between exercises)----

SLDL:
120kg x8

Bent Over Rows w/ upper back arch:
80kg x8

Chins:
bodyweight x8

GMs:
80kg x8

----Done for 3 rounts - 90 seconds between each round----

Sit ups w/plate behind head:
15kg plate 2x12

The power cleans were suck-a-licious today. Caught all them well above parallel, but didn’t “block” the weight on a few of them and had to ride it down to parallel to save them. I let it get out in front of me a bit on those reps too which wasn’t the greatest idea ever. One of the sets was awesome tho :stuck_out_tongue:

First day of the Coan DL cycle. It’s got a great rep, so hopefully it holds my hand until the Hercs club champs, gives me a nice pat on the bum, and sends me off to pull a big PR!!

205 x2 this week, 217 x2 next week, 232 x2 the week after, 245 x2 the week following… then deload and do it all again. THAT’s gonna suck.

The 162 8x3 pulls sucked… 60 second rest periods are the devil. Same goes for the circuit. Decided I’m going the entire thing strapless so my hands are shredded now. I’ll bump up the assistance a bit next week.

Probably gonna have to ease off a bit on my squatting for the duration, might rotate between front squats and box squats w/ bands instead of doing both.

The weighted sit ups were nice… in an “owww my core hurts so much” sorta way."

My other mistakes were combining it with the add 50lbs bench program (mm2k), and doing 5x5’s for my Squat. And finally, being far to aggressive on my assistance work.

YOU ARE TOTALLY INSANE TMODI!!!

I ran the deadlift program along with the bench and squat programs that are straight linear programs.

Bench- Iron Dungeon - Bodybuilding - Ed Coan Benchpress Routine
Used the calculator on JoeSkopec for my numbers.

Squat- http://www.powerpage.net/coansquat.html

Deadlift- Tsampa.org: Coan-Phillipi 10 Week Deadlift Routine

I got awesome results the first time through, I was coming out of a 12 week phase of higher volume bodybuilding type work. Squat went from 445 to 515, bench 325 to 355, DL 455 to 525. Second time I ran it I got beat up and couldn’t make gains past week 6 or 7.

My split was mon-fri, squat, heavy bench, shoulders, DL, light bench.
