If you just have liability, you insurance isn’t going to do anything. Liability only cover the damage you do to another vehicle in case you are in an accident. You will have to sue the guy. I’d suggest small claims court as a lawyer probably won’t take your case. I’d be willing to bet you will have to learn to live with a smashed door or repair it yourself.

While I was at work tonight, one of my co-workers when they where backing there car up smashed the driver side of my car.
They drove away but got caught about an hour later. I found out he doesn’t have insurance.
I have Liability, will my insurance pay out and then sue him or what will they do?
Most likely yes. It is called uninsured motorist coverage and is typically part of most liability policies and is even required as part of liability coverage in many states, but you’ll have to call your insurer to find out for sure. If not, you can always sue, or just threaten to sue and hope he pays up on your own.
I just looked it up for you and in Iowa your insurer is required to include uninsured motorist coverage in your policy, unless you specifically exclude it. So unless you remember signing a wiaver to opt out of it you should be ok. Get all the info you can and call your insurer and file the claim. I’d still give the guy the opportunity to just pay out of pocket if he wants so that you are both saved the trouble.
This guy will most likely be looking at jail time.
Hit and runs are taken seriously.
I had a client tell me once that she was driving down the road, clipped someone’s mirro (she just heard a noise didn’t know she hit the car), and someone saw it.
She had to go to court and was facing a short time in jail. She never had to though.
I hit a kid on a bike once … my insurance paid for the damages to my car … he didn’t have insurance on the bike so, fuck him, it was his fault for running the stop sign

2 words “FULL COVERAGE”
25 words “Chances are if his worthless co-worker doesn’t have insurance, its not the best job in the world, and doesn’t pay enough to have full coverage.”
Back on topic, whether or not if you like the guy, call the police. All you are doing is setting yourself up to get fucked, this jackass knew he hit your car and drove off, he deserves what’s coming to him. Had he came to you like a man and offered to pay your deductible + a chunk of money for your increased premiums then yeah I’d let it go, but fuck him, call the police.
quick edit: Forgot to mention, he probably would go to jail for not having insurance as well as the hit and run.

Present that mofo a written agreement among yourselves. Where you can workout him paying you for the damage some how. I’m sure if you come at him professionally. He’ll comply. If he acts like an ass hole.
Do this.
Look at him eye to eye as your lighting a cigarette.Denzel Washington’s voice “We can do this one or two ways, we do this like gentlemen or I’ll take your punk ass to small claims court and present pictures, witnesses and a copy of the police report. Serve you up on a fuckin’ silver platter”
“Aww, you motherfucker. Okay. Alright. I’m putting a case you bitch. Huh. You think you can do this shit…? You think you can do this to me? Motherfucker you’ll be playing basketball in Pelican Bay when I get finished with you. SHU program, nigga. 23 hour lockdown. I’m the man up in this piece. You’ll never see the light of… who the fuck do you think you’re fucking with? I’m the man, I run shit around here. You just live here. Yeah, that’s right, you better walk away. Go on and walk away… ‘cause I’m gonna’ burn this motherfucker down. King Kong ain’t got shit on me. That’s right, that’s right. Shit, I don’t, fuck. I’m winning anyway, I’m winning… I’m winning any motherfucking way. I can’t lose. Yeah, you can hit my car, but you can’t kill me.”
I just looked it up and Uninsured motorist coverage is required in Iowa, so when my insurance company calls me back I am going to make them aware of that.
Thanks for the help, I will also let my insurance agency know I do not take kindly to them trying to screw me over by not mentioning it.
Well it was a busy day. Looks like I am going to have to get the IID involved.
They tried telling me that Uninsured motorist coverage only dealt with physical injury’s. I should be receiving a call tomorrow from the head of the Iowa branch to which I will be explaining that if they continue to think they can rip me off IID will get involved.
Hopefully should have everything fixed by tomorrow.
This person is a piece of shit. I would get two estimates and give him once chance to pony up the green. If they do not do it, I would immediately start a legal proceeding to get my money and do whatever I could to make sure that they suffer the full consequence of their actions. Do not waste your time trying to be nice or stay friends with this asshole - it will not work. This chump hit your car and left. Friends do not do that to you.
When I was in high school a cute girl backed into my driver side door. I gave in to the tears and we worked out a payment schedule that lasted exactly one payment. I ended up having to threaten her father with legal action to get any money out of them. Even then, they only paid me about half of the money.
