Cluster Sets and the over 40 Lifter

Hey Coach,

Are clusters sets in your opinion something over 40 Lifters can utilize safely? I haven’t seen much literature online about older lifters using them. I am 41 and have no history of injuries. I feel I am near my genetic limit but have made gains using cluster sets. I have been doing 3 week blocks using 3 work sets per main lift. After 3 weeks I deload.

Each block uses a different cluster style i.e Block 1: Poliquin clusters, Block 2: Carl Miller extensive and Block 3: Carl Miller intensive.

The lifts are squat, incline press, TB deadlift and Bench. Plus accessory work for the main lift and plenty of upper back work.

Thank you for any insight

I think you would be fine. I am familiar with Poliquin, but not his cluster set theory. If you are recovering post workouts, and are not injury prone, then proceed. Just pay attention to what the results are regarding recovery, etc.

I’ll tag him but not sure he frequents these parts anymore @Christian_Thibaudeau

His website is Thibarmy if you want to try him there.
