Oh shit man, tough break. What’s the treatment for that?
I’m on some antiviral medication. I wonder if the lifting effected my immune system? Going to stop lifting for now, but worried maybe all this lifting triggered it.
Did you ask your doc? I doubt lifting would cause a flare up, if anything it would help by strengthening your immune system. So maybe stop lifting until the flare up is over and then you should be ok to resume.
I couldn’t lift now even if I wanted to. Too much pain in my body from the shingles. I’m struggling with basic movements.
I think I’ve had a lot of stressors potentially. Dealing with reno work, work stuff, covid?, working out to a degree too. A lot of times I workout right after work and don’t feel I have time to relax more.

162.5 lbs - 1x5
185 lbs - 1x5
140 lbs - 5x10
Dips +5 lbs: 15,15,10,10
Pendlay rows: 80 lbs - 5x10
Repeated last squat workout I did before I got shingles. Just did it to see how I was feeling. I did feel a bit weaker but should bounce back as I recover more.
Yesterday I finished my medication for shingles. I’m still not 100% but felt good enough to try to work out.
Next week I’ll probably start from start of cycle 2 again so will likely start again with this squat workout.
Bench

130 lbs - 1x5
100 lbs - 5x10
Face pulls bands - 50 lbs - 4x25 (30 sec rest)
Chin-ups: 5x10
Just messing around to see how my upper body felt. Everything felt fine. I just didn’t want to start my next cycle this weekend.
I’m a bit adverse to doing ab work anymore (at least ab roller). The day before I got the first sign of shingles I did ab roller workout. The next day my abs and stomach area were in pain. That’s when the shingles started and started in that area. Maybe it’s in my head that the two are connected but sort has made me uneasy about doing them again.

Dips +5 lbs: 5x10 (superset w/ rows)

Officially starting cycle 2 of BBB.
My guess is that the pain was because the shingles breakout was already starting, and that the ab work just aggravated the area. Not a doctor though. You’re probably being smart by not doing ab work yet so that you can get to 100% healthy first. Glad to see you back.

Skipped abs but will likely get back to them next cycle.
Yeah, I think you’re right. I remember my abs hurting more that day due to workout and couldn’t understand why.

Face pulls bands - 50 lbs - x30,30,40
Nice work man. Still feeling ok?
Just wondering, how are you finding these 5x10 deadlifts?
Yeah, doing a lot better these days. Still a bit of the rash showing, but I don’t think I’ll have any long term complications, which I was worried about with shingles.
It’s not too bad. I think I struggle more with the 5x10 squats but if you give yourself proper amount of rest between sets you should be fine assuming your TM is correct. I was resting around 2.5 minutes for first 2-3 sets and then last two I’d increase rest time even more

Got no sleep last night since I had slept like 8 hours the night before, which is rare for me. I just wasn’t tired at all.
This bench workout feels a bit too light compared to my other workouts. I only rested 1 minute for 5x10. I did reduce my bench TM though going into BBB since I seemed to have plateaued a bit on previous program.

Glad I got a lifting belt, since I think it helps get through the 5x10 but it kept pinching me which was annoying. Haven’t had that issue before.
Known as “belt bite”. You get used to it. My hips are permanently discolored from it, haha.
I wore the belt higher later so it was more at my upper back and pinched less. I assume that’s fine though.
