My girl and the midwife hit it off. Looks like it will be a home birth. No problem!

Solid.

I’m sure you’ve mentioned it before but where are you located? Part of us would prefer a midwife but unfortunately they’re illegal in our state. For me, it’s more of a cultural thing (Native American), for her, I’m not entirely sure what her reasoning is beyond having heard good things from other women.

We’re in (East) Tennessee. Midwives are legal and licensed through the state here. Apparently the medical establishment is still not on board but they sort of tolerate it.

I’m sorry the laws of SD are forcing your decisions, that’s no fun.

Eh, it’s okay. Her doc seems to be okay (I haven’t been able to meet them yet - limiting visitors at the hospital).

You guys gonna find out the gender or wait? My parents always waited with me and my siblings and I think the surprise would be fun.

The idea of a midwife is cool.

Except then I think of when my wife tore giving birth to munchkin, and had to be rushed to the OR because she was bleeding out.

Could someone explain what a midwive is? Google translator says the German word is “Hebamme” and that is a totally normal thing/ job here. But I am getting a vibe that it’s not what I think it is, with it being illegal and what not.

Instead of going to the hospital where a doctor and nurses deliver the baby some lady comes to your house and helps deliver the baby at home.

I think we’d like to know early? We haven’t talked about it officially, I just kind of assumed we would get a sonogram and find out.

I was going to ask the same, different meaning in uk also.

Firstly Flats massive congrats to you and your misses. It’s great to hear good news like this right now.
Secondly isn’t a midwife just a well trained nurse who helps with delivering the baby ? Whether in the hospital or not they are still called a midwife right ?
