Clean Carb-Up for Anabolic Diet?

Matt, I got into ketosis late yesterday-finally. I have been watching my calories and keeping them around 1800. I want to see I can lose at this amount before I start reducing them. I got rid of the peanut butter and cheese a couple days ago, so it’s been easier to avoid temptation and going over calories. I am planning on having my next carb up on March 2nd. I figure I will give this another month and then modify if I need to spacing out the carb ups and making them clean.
My workouts are as follows:
Four days a week, lifting heavy followed by about 45 minutes of either stairmill or jogging. I do my main lifts bench, deadlift, press, and squats on different days followed by accessory lifts.
Two days a week I do yoga and spinning
One day a week off.
My supplements are:
Whey-once a day
ZMA
5-HTP
ALA
Chromium Picolinate
Vit D
Biotin
BCAA’s only when I remember to take it!
Evening Primrose Oil
Fish Oil
Melatonin-occasionally

I don’t do thermogenics as I have Hashimoto’s and they can affect the thyroid

YOu are wise by ditching the PB and cheese as you can EASILY over indulge on them!!! I have had way to many competitors confess to me that they “accidentally” ate the whole jar of PB inthe middle of the night!

Make sure to 100% calculate your exact cardio you do — same w/ calories. You need to control ALL variables as best as you can.

Are you planning on competing?

Matt, I’m thinking about doing it next year. I’ve only been lifting seriously for about 6 months. I want to drop about 10 pounds before I go on vacation, and to see how I look after dieting down. I definitely have the discipline with my workouts, and I’ve come SO FAR with the diet. It really doesn’t bother me to have junk food in the house because I know how I feel (stomach pain, moodiness, headache, “hangover”) after I eat it. I don’t get those feelings from cream cheese or peanut butter, so that’s a problem. Oh well, it’s gone-took the last jar to work with some celery and fed it to my co-workers!

I’m trying a bit of fasting-not eating until about 10 in the morning (a few almonds and walnuts)then getting all of my meals in between 10-6pm.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on getting into ketosis. Dr. DiPasquale sais him self the goal is not ketosis. It sounds like your diet is on the right track though. If you’re using carb ups that are only 6-9 hours I wouldn’t space them out 10 days, 7 will work fine.

Best of luck, JK

I agree w/ Matt about getting rid of the PB. The other night I told myself I would have just one TBSP… 20 minutes later the entire jar was gone. So addicting!

I like the idea of incorporating IF if your lifestyle permits it. The only hard part for me would be eating in the day then stopping, but if you can do it go for it.

Well Maf, I can take a serving of almonds and walnuts into work and munch on them when I get hunger pangs. Then, I eat at 11:00, 4:00 and again at about 7:00. I do better if I only have 3 meals-I like three large meals vs. 6 small ones. From 5-630 or so I’m working out.
