I think what spurred TN into action was not just the hooking up part, but that one of the parties involved was married, and the cuckolded spouse threatened legal action. All downside, no upside for TN.

Yeah, then literally posting pics of it in SAMA.

So why don’t people sue FB or Instagram for ruining marriages? Why is this a thing?

FB has a gazillion dollar budget to handle frivolous lawsuits; and their business is basically to have people meet, for whatever reason.

TN sells supplements. Apples to barbells.

From when I used to be on the T-Nation forums a lot (~2008-2012; forgot my old login info):

@Cephalic_Carnage was probably the most helpful member when it came to training stuff, if you were training for BBing. The forum has a ton a great posts by him if you ever search through his posts.

@BrickHead was always awesome too back then (he posted under a different screen name) and also had a few good threads on BBing basics (can’t find them right now). And of course @The_Mighty_Stu was amazing too.

Professor X was obviously the most notable/notorious character. I agree with @EyeDentist that his training philosophy was very similar to Paul Carters, but somehow, even more abrasive in how he communicated it. I think on training X’s knew what he was talking about, but on nutrition, he definitely favoured an approach that led to too much body fat for most.

Overall, X probably had a very positive impact on the forums early on. The positive was his training approach is a good one for BBing and back when stuff like full body 5x5 programs, sometimes with no isolation exercises were being recommended on the forums for newbies trying to put on size, it was good that he and others argued for old school BB splits, not avoiding isolation exercises and machines, and progressive overload.

But towards the end (note: I missed the very end as I wasn’t on as much then), he was more of a drag on the forums than a benefit. Not just because of the drama that followed his every post, but also in stifling any discussion around nutrition that differed from his own views. The best example of that was this kid Artem, who did a terrible dirty bulk, presumably (but not really) following the approach X and others preached, and went from rail thin to really fat with health problems related to the rapid weight gain to boot. When he posted his “progress” pics it took pages until someone finally just called it what it was, and told him he got fat. You could tell by everyone’s posts though that they knew he got fat, they just wouldn’t say it out loud to avoid getting flamed by X or a sycophant of his. (Thankfully, people eventually started giving him solid advice in that thread).

There used to be a T-Cell Alpha (or something like that) where the more experienced members had some fun and informative discussions on various topics.

The Brotherhood of Iron threads were fun, you could see a ton of people progressing on their lifts and BBing in one thread.

@Ct_Rockula was definitely a unique character and one of my favourites here.

I always liked @WhiteFlash’s discussions in the NBA threads, and he knew a ton about vertical jump training too.

@countingbeans @LankyMofo @gregron @polo77j were always fun reads either in the training or off topic forums.

Everyone was afraid of tribunal dude and what info he might have had on people.

That’s all I can think of for now but the forums were really fun back then. The group here now is solid too, but definitely less drama, haha.
